Re: Japanese Factory Dissapointment.
It sounds like a major problem with QC procedures at the factory(S) to me. My Japan spydies are good ones, without any issues at all. I think you should contact Sal & let him know what you've found, as he would most certainly want to be in this loop. I know he's dedicated to value & quality ...

Re: Pork question
Pork can contain parasites, other animals as well. For an interesting description of caribou meat, read "People of the Deer" by Farley Mowat & check out his description of what he found in a mature buck on the tundra. Pork is no worse or better than any other meat. Preparation has a lo...

Re: Beginner Sword Suggestions
I would look into a practical plus katana. The one I bought was well made & can be taken apart for sharpening & any work you might do. The practical can't be taken apart, at least that's my understanding of the assembly (glued handle). Amazon has the plus for $259, just checked. You might fi...

"Een Soviet Union, old vermin who snoop we poot in ground and cover with dirt." I would not have been kind, I would have told her she is trespassing and the next time I will call the police. That's why we have a fence & a wall at our house. Anyone inside is fair game, but that's just m...

Re: Smaller knives.Just can't warm up to them.
Still enjoy carrying a Dragonfly in ZDP-189. Had it on a job site this week and lent it to a carpenter who needed to sharpen his pencil while we were snapping out a house measure trusses. Not sure what he thought about the little dinky knife I handed him. He put his thumb behind the blade & push...

Re: Tire pressure sending unit costs
About the Volvo, they will run as long as you keep putting expensive parts in them from Sweden & Europe. I had two a few years back & am glad I sold them. The one I actually miss is the '87 240 wagon I did a turbo motor replacement in. It was a sleeper with IPD suspension, intercooler & ...

Re: Tire pressure sending unit costs
Yes, any vehicle made in 2007 & later has the Federally mandated pressure sensors on each rim and accompanying computer circuit. I bought the Nissan because it has a timing chain, not a belt which needs service every 100K miles. I didn't know anything about these sensors, first vehicle with them...

Tire pressure sending unit costs
My 2007 Nissan Frontier has the (now) mandatory pressure sensors in the valve stems. There are internal batteries which expire after "about" 10 years. In my case it was 8 years, not 10. This throws an error code & is annoying Called the dealership & their replacement cost is $250 p...

Dragon Fly. Looks just like a knife, cuts like it's much bigger. Get the ZDP 189 blade & you'll be amazed at how well it cuts & how functional a small, light, precise knife can be.

Re: Spyderco ZDP-189 HRC?
Doesn't Cliff Notes make a metallurgical cheat-sheet type of book about this stuff? Wouldn't that be easier (sorry Cliff, I couldn't resist). But seriously, just start buying knives of differing types of steels and spend a few years testing, learning & examining the properties of each steel, gri...

Re: Tatanka vs Voyager lock strength test By Cold Steel
"Trivial definition, of very little importance or value." I'm not a Spyderco fanboy. I own other brands of knives, along with Spyderco knives. Perhaps I should have said it's a trivial test, proving nothing of value to me. If the Spyderco "won" the "test" I would have t...

Re: Tatanka vs Voyager lock strength test By Cold Steel
Thoroughly unimpressed with this type of lock testing. To me it's irrelevant & meaningless, or as Cliff would say, a trivial test proving nothing.

Re: Burn To Red the Steel questions
If you can find some information in an internet search in your regular language, it might be easier to understand. There is a lot of interesting information about how steel is hardened and how this affects the use of each type of steel. Good luck with your search!

Re: Ultra fine austenite grain/carbide size stainless
I'm wondering about this type of heat treatment & the thickness of the material type being used. Is there an upper limit to thickness and would a blade fall into this category? Since it's a process, it can be applied to different types of materials, but will the market support this cost basis fo...
