Re: Show your Mule
I have a good amount of experience making knife scales using a trim router/mini table setup, and have a few pieces of advice for you. You are correct that making small parts is inherently dangerous, so you really need to be careful and use extreme caution when doing this. I have been a cabinetmaker...

Re: Good second Spyderco
The right second Spyderco is the one that comes before the third .
I could suggest at least 50% of their catalog, but I'm a man of low (no) inhibition !

Re: Spyderco and hrc
I don't even care about the exact HRC nr, mainly because I know Spyderco is one of the best in terms of heat treatment. Clearly, their XHP, M390 and 20CV are stunning examples of that. I haven't seen better, and rarely equally good heat treats for these steels. And for many others, we can't see any...

Re: Knife that screams liner lock got the compression lock - why?
Up until 2021 or 2022, only Spyderco could use the compression lock, their invention. Why not use it ? I get it for collaborations that were initially linerlocks. Except if it is something the creator of the original custom knife agreed to. If they did, well they wanted it that way and good for them...

Just learned about it this morning. The crooked building was really shocking. I hope they find every missing people in good health, and send prayers for those who are sadly gone.

Re: Native Scout?
Oh it does require some work for sure, it might even end up being bad depending on who does it and what happens while making it
If I ever make one, I'll still definitely buy the real deal if it comes into existence

Re: MangaSlice - The Next Breakthrough in Knife Steel
That's it, I'm officially out of the loop when it comes to the new hype steels. I can't do it anymore guys, I can't understand this future.
From today, I'm going with 1075 only for all creation and uses and will stick to that. **** animetals.

Re: Show your Mule
Man, those Micarta scales look good @Ramonade Clean lines there. I've been making so many wooden scales recently I wanted to try something different. These are aluminum honeycomb filled with dyed resin. I think these are my new favorite scales. The way the aluminum honeycomb reflects the light in d...

Re: Native Scout?
Robin, does that mean you´re actually trying / doing the "shorten the Chief" - thing? Or (and?) the "scootch the choil back into the handle a bit" ? With both it would be awesome to see the result(s)!!! :grin-big eyes (And to learn how much effort, time and money it took you in ...

Re: Show your Mule
Well done Robin, looking good!! Thanks Paul, apparently it was good enough because I need to make another set already :grin-sweat Thicker this time. I might go nuts on chanfering ! PS : I love to see how precise I can be with my files, but these chanfers take too much time, I need a tool dedicated ...

Re: Show your Mule
Hi Robin, That's looking good. How did you make them? sal Thanks, I wanted them to look a bit rough, I love micarta that way (but sadly I'm only able to do that finish on flat surfaces). I used a drill press, belt grinder and diamond files/sandpaper :grin-smiling-eyes Some CNC bits on my drill pres...

Re: Show your Mule
Ive been asked if i could make cheaper handles so i wanted to try and make them flat. Chanfered and screw construction. Here's a first example in natural canvas : https://i.imgur.com/4WaAAk8.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/BvyCr1Z.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/tR06RWe.jpeg https://i.imgur.com/Mew0hxG.jpeg https...

Re: Native Scout?
OK, I gotta admit, that's a very attractive size. Seeing it won me over. Can we just scootch the finger choil back into the handle a bit? There's plenty of room, and it'd leave more edge available for cutting. It's pretty perfect 🤩 Makes me want to revise my plan of buying a Native chief XL and try...

I don't know if it's been said already but many people gave a feedback saying that T8 plus bits fits way more nugly in the pivot of this Bowie run.

Re: Knifejoy Exclusive...Slysz Bowie??!!
Well, all this talk made me buy one.
Without the steel insert though. Beats having to pay for shipping and customs !
I'll see in which compartment of my sock drawer it belongs. Maybe it will go with my blue ones

Re: Native Scout?
Well, my sharing of the guy's work was also meant for the people who imagine such a knife as their dream knife. These guys must be impatient to own such a knife. Because no matter what if we ever sea a "real spyderco" version, it will be in 2030 or more

WE could always buy a Native chief and do this, too : https://messerforum.net/threads/spyderco-native-custom-special-wip.145705/ I came to post the same thing! hehe, I know you know how I reacted seeing this ! Someone beat me to it, and did it very well ! ~~~~~~~ I wasn't showing this to say "...
