Re: Factory Tours?

Are the knives at the SFO discounted at all? Not sure of the percentage, but they are slightly discounted off MSRP. They are still quite a bit higher than online dealer pricing and you will have to pay Colorado tax if buying in person...but whatever, I still bought a few knives while there. Thanks,...

What's the other 2/3? :D
Probably 1/3 value, 1/3 performance. :P

Re: Factory Tours?

I've been a few times. It was pretty cool at the seconds sale last year Sal even helped me pick between a couple knives I was going to buy. Other times I have been in the staff has been helpful, and it has been empty which means that I got pretty much 1 on 1 attention for an hour from whoever was wo...

Re: Bolted vs Pinned Spyderco Knives: Your opinions?

I prefer screws. I like to make custom scales, tinker, etc, and pins just dont do that well.
That said, SB Caly3 is my most carried knife, and in some ways I am happy that I havent had it apart. It certainly doesnt ruin the knife. Caly 3 is the best knife I've carried.

Re: Spyderco Custom Blades and Counterfeit Question

Without going deep into it, counterfeiting is a very specific term. In law school we generally learn about it as a product that tries to take advantage of the goodwill of the original by being nearly identical and having nearly identical markings (think counterfeit Rolex). Without being a counterfei...

Re: Manix 2 G10 CQI?

You guys can just be like me and skeletonize your own liners, if you have enough determination and self hatred to get it done lol. I started into this project based on your post. I make some knives from scratch, and it was tough enough that I gave up on the skeletonizing. Even getting the first hol...

Re: Manix 2 backspacer rust?

The knives have not been wet at all. I have not even carried or used on of them that exhibits the same brown spots as the two I've used. It has sat in a drawer. I haven't noticed this on other parts of the knife. I have a Pm2 that I've have used for quite some time with no issues at all. I can't te...

Re: Manix 2 backspacer rust?

It is possible that there is rust if the knife has been left wet or is frequently in wet situations. You might be doing a good job drying the blade, but neglecting the inside. That said, I understand that Spyderco uses more rust-resistant steels on the liners and backspacers for knives, and Ive neve...

Re: Custom blades for Spyderco knives

This can theoretically be done, but a few considerations: 1. This will be very expensive. The cost of the new blade will likely rival the cost of a new full custom. Though the PM2 is a great design, I personally would always rather have a full custom to my specs than a production knife with a custom...

Re: 2nds sale?

Can confirm that last year's sale was a blast. I really had a hard time keeping my purchases down. Everyone was very friendly, there were many good deals to be had. Popular models like the dragonfly were basically non-existent (I only saw two, both zdp chipped returns). The quality of the seconds se...

Re: What is Spyderco's FLAGSHIP model?

Yeah, except 'flagship' doesn't have multiple meanings.. It's like giving different meanings to"basic"... Flagship has two meanings in the dictionary, and one of them is broken into parts. " the finest, largest, or most important one of a series, network, or chain" That is prett...

Re: What is Spyderco's FLAGSHIP model?

Sometimes flagship can mean quintessential, in which case I would agree with delica, PM2, or DF2. More often I think of flagship as "finest" though. In that case, price is often a good indicator of what a company internally sees as its own flagship. In that case, we would be looking at the...

My pick would by a caly 3 and chaparral type cross. A three inch blade with the awesome ergos of the caly 3, but the thinner grind and pin-style backlock of the chaparral. Maybe in something in a natural handle material like ebony or cocobolo, and s35vn

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

I can't get over how much weight people add to their car keys. It's not great for the ignition switch I just don't like the feeling of a bulky keychain. I took my keychain items and put them in a wallet-type system to keep them safe, flat, predictable, and off the keychain. Also, my copper maratac ...

Re: Knife News: Integral Handle: What do you say?

Integral handles are a sort of prestige item to me. They are claimed to be stronger, but I have never seen a knife fail at the spacer or standoffs. Stronger doesn't matter when every other design is strong enough. They are an awesome prestige item though because it brings to mind the machine-time th...

Flashlights: I currently have a thrunite ti3 that I EDC, and I really like it. Also have a AA and AAA mini-maglite. I am thinking of asking for an LED mod kit for the maglite. Also thinking of the maratac AAA Cu or the surefire titan plus, need to decide between them. Anyone own either? I have the ...

Re: Suggestions for new EDC items?

I like my Maratac copper aaa. I have two copper and one anodized aluminum. I like that they are M-L-H. The order of modes is one thing I dont like about my thrunite ti3. The Low (firefly) mode is not enough to really light up anything short of reading maps. So I have to twist twice to get any "...

Yep. Every night at 11 mountain. My girlfriend even knows about it because of my gasps when I go to submit a long post and get an error. lol

My guess is that is when the forum backs up or updates or something. Usually 5-20 minutes it is down.
