Re: Here's my wants - What's My Knife?

Cat does look like it checks all my boxes...and on the cheap! As far as the Manbug and Ladybug...do they come with clips? Would prefer to use a clip when not at work so I can have the pocket to carry my phone. That Chaparral is a beauty!!! When closed, how big across does it look/feel? Not the widt...

Here's my wants - What's My Knife?

I've put my four quality knives...Kershaw Cryo, Ontario Rat II, Byrd Robin II, and CKRT Pazoda II...through all kinds of knife ‘cutting workouts’, opening/closing what seems like hundreds of times, and trying them out in all of my various wardrobes, I’ve narrowed down the specifics of my wants in my...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

Haha! My GF's been pretty tolerant of it. But there was one night recently when I was up kind of late reading the forums and playing with knives in my office. She came in with sleep in her eyes and said she woke up and kept hearing this clicking sound that was driving her nuts. When she realized wh...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

Get a Dragonfly 2, lose the clip and spend what you save over the Chaparral for a Sharpmaker sharpening system. Super light. Can't see it. Always laser sharp. I like the idea of losing the clip...well not so much losing the clip but carrying it in my pocket. I had ignored this carry method because ...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

Thanks for all the information so far....a lot of options out there to think about. 1 question (didn't want to start a whole new thread so I thought I'd just add to this one): I see a lot of people recommend the Dragonfly but few recommend the Cat. They seem to have similar specs so what makes the D...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

To be fair, Case and Victorinox ARE good quality knives. If those are the knives you've carried most, I wouldn't say you've had a hard life ;) The best thing about Spyderco is they really don't offer a crappy steel, even in the budget line of knives they use pretty good performing steel. You'll pro...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

The steel for the Chap is CTS-XHP. FFG simply stands for "full flat grind." Ahhhh...makes since now...my apologies for my newbie ignorance. Have been carrying a basic Case or Swiss Army knife for the past 35 years...looking for a quality knife is something entirely new to me. Thanks for t...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

Could be worth a read :D //forum.spyderco.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=69304 Thanks a lot for that link! One question: in that post it says that the blade in the Chaparral is FFG but the Spyderco website states the blade is CTS XHP. Are they the same thing or have they changed the blade they put in ...

Re: Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

Thanks for all the help so far...seems like I've got several great options to choose from with the Chaparral, DragonFly 2, and Cat leading the way. I recently ordered a Byrd Robin 2 FRN just so I could get a feel as to whether I like the flipper on my Cryo or a hole better for the opening style. Wh...

Less than 3" Blade, Deep Pocket, $40-$100 Options?

I'm looking for an EDC knife that: - has a blade less than 3 inches (in the 2" to 2.5" range would be ideal) - is priced $40 to $100 (looking to go up in quality from current knives) - offers Deep Pocket Carry (would prefer it not to be seen when taking it to work) - weighs 3 ounces or les...
