Re: Lil' Hungarian, anyone?

I love the Hungarian! I've said it before but its worth repeating - it's a big time sleeper model! Really great ergonomics as is and honestly my favorite part of the knife but for me its a gents knife and, unfortunately, doesn't get carried as much as it should. I'd most likely be interested in a L...

Re: Hungarian lightweight

Hi folks, although the Hungarian finished its career at Spyderco I designed an edc version. It has a modified blade, handle cutout for easier lock operation, a double side wire clip and G10 scales. This blade shape is closer to the authentic one. Hungarian lightweight.jpg Fantastic work! I would lo...

Resurrecting the thread.

Yes please!

I love the Hungarian; my first spyderco and the start of an unreasonable addiction.

Re: I want to buy one knife to last me ~10 years

I would go with a stainless Delica. VG10 is relatively easy to sharpen and it remains a dang fine and affordable steel. The stainless scales would hold up the whole time and that would solve the not liking FRN issue. My 2 cents. I second the Delica. I use mine for whittling and it only needs a quic...

Re: Spyderco Reinhold Rhino Giveaway!!!

I’m in! My hero for this post is my Father. He risked a lot to escape from Hungary while it was under Russian dictatorship. I keep encouraging him to write a book about his experiences escaping, in refugee camps, and eventual settlement in Canada. He declines as he doesn't feel that anything he's do...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

New Knife Day! 3759214587695947766.jpg 7050618992071859197.jpg I went with the Sliverax... First... The main reason I went with the Sliverax is the smaller profile, and unique design. If I have the Shaman on me at work it'll likely scare people. If I have the Sliverax it'll intrigue people. I loved ...

Re: Looking for some thoughts....

So does anyone else around here simply have an obsession for spyderco blades?!? I'm not a rich man so I often can't get what I really want, but whenever I get the chance for a new blade this is where I come. Their designs are inspired, their steel is excellent, customer service off the charts!!! I ...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

Reading some of these comments about the Shaman in the pocket makes me feel like I own a different knife. It carries shorter in the pocket than a pm2 and I feel like I have plenty of room. So much so I forget I have it on me half of the time because it carries so light. Agreed. Some comments made i...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome and plethora of opinions/shared experiences.

I was able to get to a few shops around town and handle old stock items. Decisions have been made; photos to posted when an order arrives.

Thanks all!

Re: CBSA - Canadian knife import ban

This definitely isn’t news, bro. It’s been a couple months or more of this crap. You are correct, it has been around for months. I did not find any links to the petition in this forum so I figured I would share. There was a deleted thread discussing how to get around the issue on this forum which i...

Re: CBSA - Canadian knife import ban

The ownership/use/possession of folding knives is still 100% legal; the import of them is not. (a) a knife that has a blade that opens automatically by gravity or centrifugal force or by hand pressure applied to a button, spring or other device in or attached to the handle of the knife I understood...

CBSA - Canadian knife import ban

Gayle Bradley1 or 2 would be my all around choice for a hard use folder.
I'm ignorant on M4 steel; I'll have to look into it more. Thanks for the recommendation!

I'm loving the forum so far for all the great ideas and feedback.

My wallet however, is not going to be as happy.

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

I've handled a shaman and currently own the sliverax. my opinion: both are certainly suitable for relatively hard use in terms of blade profile and thickness, but the geometry of the lock and liners on the shaman is going to withstand more force. For me, the biggest difference is in carry. The sliv...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

Welcome to the forum, talesk. :) Unfortunately, I won't be of much help as I do not yet own either knife. However, if you are looking for something more "robust" for woodcraft projects, etc., the Shaman might be a good option thanks to its contoured handles and stout frame. You may also w...

Boy that got long winded. :o Not at all; This is exactly the kind of feedback I'm looking for. Regarding batoning; I have fixed blades for that... and proper axes for processing large wood at volume. Right tool for the job and all that. I appreciate that something as beefy as the Shaman could feasi...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

I know you mentioned two models specifically, but since you're new to the brand I just have to toss the Manix 2 (especially the LW) into the mix for consideration. Absolutely fantastic knife with some of the best ergonomics I've encountered. Some say it is beefy in the pocket and I guess compared t...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

I don't have a Shaman yet so I can't give a full unbiased opinion, but I am very interested in getting one. I do have 2 Sliverax's, one with the flipper tab ground off and one that still has it and I like them both. I think the Sliverax does an amazing job of walking the line between a real use kni...

Re: Newbie - Sell me a knife Sliverax versus Shaman... or other?

I'm holding out for a Shaman in Cruwear (or 3V, 4V, V4E. PD1)...or if BHQ does a run of Jade/M4 in the Shaman I will get one since I have all of the previous models. I thought of this as well but I'm worried about the new-ish Canadian Import Ban. I'm currently limited to landed / old-stock Canadian...
