Re: Civilian. Why..

These are knives that are very interesting to put to someone with a training knife. They put a lot of pressure on the edge, particularly if you start to drag (pull cut). http://i1049.photobucket.com/albums/s400/Studey/6C511F6C-1172-43D4-8437-16C187F445A8_zpszx6ksr9y.jpg They are definitely a one tri...

Re: Nirvana RE-incarnated

1) They ABSOLUTELY could have put a lockbar insert in this knife with no problem. I'll reference the CKF Tegral and Rike knives as examples of integrals with LBI's Even if it were screwed in from the outside, they should have done it. Surely, they knew the lockstick was an issue prior to production...

Re: SE Hawkbill Advice

A few things...yes, a SE hawkbill will plow through rope. The Tasman is the easiest to carry (apart from the ladybug) due to its light weight and thinness. The serrations could have variances, but they're all essentially the same in my experience, though the scallops and teeth are smaller on the lad...

Re: Customer Disservice?

Glad to hear you will be receiving a replacement sheath! I know you only mentioned making a sheath for one other knife, but if for some reason you wanted more, say if you started experimenting with the Spyderco Mule Team series (which don't come with sheaths) another option is Mike Sastre of River ...

Re: Spydiechef-am I the only one??

Interesting comparison with the Bowie. Anyone want to guess why the Bowie is $100 more. I can imagine Xhp vs lc200n costs that much different. Bowie blade is 1/2 mm thicker also. Maybe the finish on handles of chef is cheaper? Just a guess and not completely responsible for the extra cost but it ma...

Re: Custom backspacers, where?

Cuscadi has probably the most precise ones out. Otherwise, RGT, Sketchen, Boomer52 all do great work.

Re: Customer Disservice?

Doesn't kydex float? Bummer, but I would not feel entitled to a free sheath if I lost or broke one. Kydex does not float. What happens when you drop any other piece of plastic in the water? Our own member, Studey, does a spectacular job with custom Kydex sheaths. Thanks! Must be something with us H...

Re: Who can convert a Pacific Salt to FFG?

Krein has been out for years. Like...5 or 6 at least? He occasionally does them, but usually for repeat customers or people he knows, or ones that he does in batches. No custom orders for quite a few years now.

Re: Any news on Caribbean or new large LC200 Steel Knives?

Bumping to ask: Does LC200N, like H1, keep an working edge longer in SE than in PE? Has an SE version of the Caribbean been hinted? My understanding is that one benefit of LC200N is the opposite, that it has much better PE edge retention. I could be entirely wrong on that. I don't remember what kin...

Re: Who can convert a Pacific Salt to FFG?

Evil, Krein used to be THE go to guy. I had, at one point, around a dozen regrinds from him. Absolutely perfect work. Josh at REK appears to have just gotten better and better. I don't have anything from him yet, but when I have something reground next, it'll be from him.

Re: Sage 5 / Zome Now Available *PIC HEAVY*

I stand corrected. However, there were models with PPCF before per Sal in another thread. http://www.spyderco.com/forumII/viewtopic.php?t=36755 I guess I should have explained some of the things that I think or know. So, we have G-10, which is similar to plastic. It might actually be a portion of g...

Since Krein basically stopped, Josh at REK would be my go to. His work is much more...precise than almost everyone else I've seen doing it.

Re: My new Mantra-Should I return it?

The marks on the back look like they could have come that way. That subtle stonewashed they're using now has makes like that sometimes. Front almost looks like oil, though I assume it's not since you're posting it.

Butterscotch/honey/merigold. Those all look great! Much like the 'goldenrod' color that has been discussed.

Re: Is Ti Millie getting the treatment?

I gave my fluted Ti Millie a bit of a CQI upgrade myself recently. Besides the S110V blade, it has the new stepped pivot as well. The old version of the stop pin and the lanyard hole work just fine ;). http://i780.photobucket.com/albums/yy85/dnairradiator/4E0A4D43-8FE2-44BD-B590-21D528F3CB1E_zpsznq...

Re: Is Ti Millie getting the treatment?

I'm confused. 50-60% lockup is a bad thing? Some people think so. Maybe for crappy framelocks. Most people are going by what some 'expert' says on YouTube. Never mind that Chris Reeve...the inventor of the framelock....specs his at 50-75%. That's an even more expensive knife with--gasp--...

Re: Can Caly 3 Damascus pattern be "wiped off?" (Minimized)

I'm really surprised by this. I would not have guessed that you could minimize the Damascus look. But seeing it, it seems the the blade had an acid bath to patina some layers and not others. Really cool. If you ever want to put it back on, I guess you could cut some lemons and let the acid patina t...
