Re: Help with Micarta handle repair ideas -- clip pulled out
You have to be very very careful with the unlined micarta on these Goddards. If you over tighten the clip screws or torque the scales too much, you will make the blade bind in the scales. Because it is pinned, there is no way to adjust it out. I've got two first generation Goddard micartas that are ...

Re: Need More Smaller, In The Field Sharpening Tools
Yes you can sharpen on a rock. Some rocks work better than others. The bottom rim of a coffee mug will work in a pinch, as will the top edge of your car/truck window. A tablet back makes a decent strop. Agreed. Some rocks work better than others. You can also use the sidewalk concrete in a pinch as...

Re: Carbon Steel Purist: How do you respond?
I tend to call these kinds of folks "Old Coots" and just smile as they ramble on. Having said that - I won't buy any woodworking hand tools with blades in "modern" steels. I tend toward White/Blue Aogami, A2, 01, and other low-carbide steels for my chisels, plane irons, scrapers,...

Re: Spyderco Fire Steel?
For me, the biggest reason to use a ferro rod is that it gets you extra point in BSA Klondike, which can help your troop win. Using a lighter will get you counted off. Most of the other reasons for using a ferro rod are quite silly, IMO. I much prefer a few packs of those giant, orange water proof ...

That guy is pretty awesome. Watched a couple of his other videos. Did you see the one where he put a motorcycle engine inside a Tuktuk?

I remember sitting with my Grandad every Saturday night and watching Gunsmoke - and catching the early seasons of the Carol Burnett Show on Monday nights. Good stuff.

Hey, Jack. You gotta get the paring knife. I've owned a number of these over the years and have them stashed all over the house, in my turnout gear for camping, in the car... Combined together, they are probably my most used Spydie of all time. Incredibly useful with a thin edge, acute point, easy t...

Tvenuto - I was in Amsterdam twice in the past couple of years, and have visited numerous times over my life. I love the city and country dearly. But for the life of me, I can't figure out the "street dynamic" you correctly described. The trams especially freak me out - they indeed move qu...

Re: The GOLDENSTONE: What's The Latest?
Hey, JD - jumping in late here... As you know, I've had the Goldenstone for a while now. I absolutely marveled at the engineering process that Sal went through to develop such a complex shape of high quality ceramic - this kind of quality simply wasn't available on consumer products as little as fiv...

Re: Urban Lightweight now available!?
I just unboxed mine this morning. The lock action feels almost exactly like the Pingo and Squeak - which is not surprising given that they are based on the same backspacer design. Out of the box, though, the Urban was a lot "snappier" than the last Pingo or Squeak I opened. It takes a fair...

Re: Wegner Jr.
Thanks for the clarification, Sal. I have a small Wegner. I don't carry it very often for one reason - the Spydie Hole is too small to open comfortably. I think the folks in Golden have refined the geometry and placement of the trademark hole a great deal in recent years. All the modern Spydies - ev...

Its a bit bigger than 3", but the Goddard feels like one of the thinnest Spydies when it is in your pocket.

Re: Urban Lightweight now available!?
The G-10 Urban is actually linerless. But it does have a full length, steel lockbar/backspacer. I believe this version also has a full length backspacer like the Pingo? I may have to buy one to swap the blade with my G10 version. I knackered the edge and tip of that learning how to sharpen... Sal c...

Re: Anybody has a MARTTIINI SHARPENING STONE ? Natural or man-made? Grit? Experiences?
If it is truly a quartzite stone, I'd bet that it is ground up and reconstituted (not entirely natural, in other words). If so, there are probably better options out there - such as Spyderco's ceramic stones. These will remain flat, offer uniform grit, and perform consistently for many years. Go wit...
