Schempp Bowie impressions

I finally received my Schempp Bowie on Thursday :D It was well worth the hassle of returning the first one I purchased and returning it to CS (Hats off to CS for a quick refund on the knife and shipping cost). I was a bit ambivalent about the knife initially because the lockbar was sticking a little...

There's bem a Bug in my wallet for a few years now. Always nice to know there's a sharp edge handy in a pinch ;)

Re: Looking for a great slicer

Again I'd recommend trying the Cento3. 2mm stock HG VG-10, A delight with an insane edge  And it won't break the bank :D

Re: Reason for return

Thanks all for the replies. The knife was sent back to CS last week for swap with a QC check. Good to get my own misconception corrected also.

I'll chime back when the replacement arrives this week.

Re: Reason for return

OK, To be clear, % lock for a liner lock means the percentage of blade face that is traversed by the leading edge of the lockbar. Am I correct in this assumption?

Re: What steels take an extremely fine edge?

It depends on what you mean by "extremely fine". You can get things sharp, than with care and polish get them push cutting "sharper". All steels can get extremely sharp, the real questions are how easily and how well it will hold that type of sharpness. You pick the steel dependi...

Re: Reason for return

Thanks for the replies. For clarification; What does percent mean for you. I always thought it was the percentage of lockbar that's engaged with the blade. Do you folks read that definition differently?

Re: Reason for return

Yeah it's the Schempp Bowie. I really like the knife but the lockup for what's going to be a user was a no go. We'll see what I receive next week :)

Reason for return

I've already returned this example to CS for a swap with a QC check. No drama, no rant, just a little disappointment because I wanted to use it this weekend. In production Stuff happens sometimes ;) I made up for it by putting an absolutely silly edge on an Opinel I plan to give away :D :D This is m...

Re: Sypderco Tenacious Serrated, bad choice for new knife owner?

Crazy..........:D With the right kind of cardboard it seems like it would work. Sharpening is every individuals challenge. Some are more talented and gifted than others. I'm on the low end of the talented and gifted scale :o Still my edges are now extremely sharp and I've sharpened knives for over a...

Re: Positron/Ion topic

We could shorten it to Higgs or just Boson.........After all most of the blade is just empty space anyway, we just perceive the energy in it's various forms........... S30V reflects energy just fine.... :D Positrons are a bit rare in this universe, Ions are plentiful and reactive. I'm not up o...

Re: Positron/Ion topic

Seriously, IMO there's nothing wrong with S30V as a blade material. With all blade materials compromises have to be made.

All a matter of preference and no preference is wrong or right. Hold out for Unobtainium........;)

You've come to a good group snakeMD. Folks here taught me to sharpen a while ago. With an SM there is no reason to be intimidated by serrations.

Welcome and Enjoy the forum.

I would suggest the Centofante 3. 2mm thick hollow ground vg-10. It is a slicing machine :D And it won't break the bank :D

Re: Stretch 2, Poor Craftsmanship

It was difficult for me to discern the flaws in the knife from the pictures. Everyone is different and has different levels of expectation as well. The only question I would ask the OP is; Does the stretch handle and use well? " Poor Craftsmanship " Are pretty strong words to throw around ...
