Re: Advice from the experts, please?
So I've been buying a fair amount of Spydercos recently, and it occurred to me that I need to ask some experts a few tips on knife care and maintenance. So here we go: 1) what do you guys recommend for a lubricant? I just got my first Millie in today and after flipping it open and closed a few time...

Serge Roc shaking off the new, size comparison
It was exciting to receive this model last week. I was taken by the unique shape and possibilities it offers. Action was a bit stiff out of the box. Luckily I don't have a torx large enough to fit the pivot bolt, the action has smoothed out beautifully over the past couple of days on it's own. The f...

Re: Just pulled the plug on a C177GP Roc
Just received the Roc today and I've had a little time to look and feel it over. Overall initial impressions are quite good :) I like this knife, it feels like it was designed to work. It is very nicely made, a little rough in the g-10, but that's pretty typical, a little carry will smooth it out. B...

Re: Just pulled the plug on a C177GP Roc
I guess I'll see what I see when I get the Roc. I've been around these things a little while so I'll know what I'm looking at. In a way reducing expectations is a very good thing and I appreciate the honest replies :) I will have to play with it, reprofile etc before I get opinions of my own. It's a...

Re: Just pulled the plug on a C177GP Roc
Interesting to hear the first 2 opinions :) Good to hear from you David :) With 3mm vg-10 and a 3" blade length it's hard for me to think of this model as a novelty. The handle looks well suited for the blade as well. Then again I'm always drawn to the unconventional ones. It'll be interesting ...

Just pulled the plug on a C177GP Roc
For me this model had an appealing look and on paper the specs look good for me. The cleaver like blade shape gets my imagination going
Any one own one of these?? Looking for comments/ opinions.
I can see using this model as a nice 3" folding slicer :D

Re: Advantages of VG10 over other premium steels
I don't understand what is meant by "other premium steels". Do you mean S30V, or CTS-XHP? Stainless or carbon steel? I like VG-10 because it takes and keeps a very fine polished edge, is very easy to sharpen/touch up, and is very stable/stainless. S30V is great for edge longevity, but it n...

Re: Is 8cr13mov hard to clean when badly rusted?
If the Tenacious is badly rusted there might be some residual pitting after the rust is cleaned off. I cleaned up a circa 1900 knife that belonged to my grandfather. It was a block of rust like what EvilD showed. Steel wool and scothbrite pads were needed with a bunch of wd-40. A picture of the Tenac...

Schempp Bowie Mini Review and Opinions
This knife was obtained quite a few months ago, was reprofiled, sharpened, carried a bit then set down because it was a bit too heavy and the footprint it made in my pocket was too large, I couldn't quite take the whole thing in. After carrying and using the rest, Native, Kiwi4, Urban leaf, Cento3, ...

Re: 3 in 1 motor oil okay for rust prevention on Spyderco blades?
asonC6612 , could you post a picture of your rusted Tenacious?
For vg-10, S30V, XHP I find no oil is needed at all, and I have neglected to clean them on occasion.
It's a shame 13CrMoV acts like that. It does take a nice edge.

Re: Sharpmaker Failure
Ditto to Surfingringo......Having been sharp challenged myself I understand your frustration Lunchbox. A key point is magnification so you can see exactly what you are doing to the edge with a sharpie mark. Focus on what is going on at the very edge. Keep with it, pay attention to the edge, read, as...

three folders and 2 FB. The FB ride in my lunchbox and the three folders get switched out at random depending on which I have touched the edge up on last.

Re: The Stainless Dilemma
According to Spyderco a "Stainless steel" contains at least 12% Chromium. Remember though a "stainless steel" is not impervious to some kind of oxidation over time depending of course on conditions.

Re: The Stainless Dilemma
Always try to use what's appropriate for the conditions and the job. There are stronger and weaker points for every material :DSpyderNut wrote:Agreed. I am fond of many steels, stainless and non-stainless alike. I voted for both. :)demoncase wrote:Steel choice on a Spyderco is never a deal breaker.
