Re: What is your avatar?

Mine is a shot of me at Boy Scout Camp a couple of years ago. A week's stubble and a couple of day's worth of sweat, bug spray and sunblock. I was in my element...

I bought a couple of bushcraft-style sheaths from BRISA. They fit nicely and are made of nice leather.

Re: Stretch 2 in Black Palm

Steve did a really nice job with that Palm. That stuff is darned tough to work with - it splinters and chips with abandon. And heaven help you if you get a splinter from the Palm... its like getting stabbed with a kabob skewer. Looks great - but after a couple of nasty accidents, I don't allow it i...

Re: Spyderco's Hidden & Forgotten models

There are models that have a really solid cult following like the LiL TEMPERANCE, Terzoula and the ultra-unique Dyad models. I'm wondering what models you all deem as lost/hidden classics? I'm also wondering which obscure model(s) that you all think would be a great SPRINT RUN? I'm not sure I would...

I'd purchase a burnt orange Spyderdo... But for the record, I'm NOT A UT FAN!

Re: Official Thread Regarding Upcoming Endura/Delica/Stretch

The ZDP mules had trouble because the steel composition was off. The recommended heat treat therefore didn't produce expected results as best as I can recall. SG2 I have tried in a few knives. It seems to have a bit less abrasive wear than S30V but when done the way the competitor company treated i...

Re: Favorite PM2

The 20CP is my go-to. I replaced the stock grey G10 with some burgundy linen micarta scales from Lucas at Cuscadi. He does great work. I had Lucas make me another set of scales just like this for my Elmax PM2 as well. The feel of linen micarta just can't be beat... TedP http://i1220.photobucket.com/...

The wife and I like to grill fresh beets on the patio. Just slice them, toss them with a little olive oil and some salt/pepper - and grill for 20-30 min on medium heat. Awesome summer treat!

Re: CTS 20CP - Didn't Make the Cut?

When I got below 30 degrees, I experienced a lot of chipping. Is this visible or smaller? What kind of work? Cliff, this is my main weekend/holiday/camping/hiking knife. So I use it for everything from cutting up apples to opening bags of mulch to light branch cutting. Nothing abusive (I don't bato...

Re: Paramilitary question.

The way the PM2 is constructed, it is very sensitive to adjustments of the pivot screw (and to a lesser degree, the stop pin). If you like your action loose, so that the blade swings freely, it will likely introduce a tiny bit of side-to-side play. That's the tradeoff for loosening the action. Howev...

Re: Older Spyder models; Updated Materials?

Not technically a Spyderco, but I would love to see the Solo line return. I recently snagged a Solo2, and this knife along with the (Solo1) with CF handles instead of Micarta would be great office carries. I love how thin they are and how little space they take up in the pocket. I'm with you, Invec...

Re: CTS 20CP - Didn't Make the Cut?

The grey 20CP is my favorite Para2 by a long shot - and I've got all of them. I swapped out the original G10 for some burgundy micarta scales and have used this knife for my main EDC for the past couple of years. It is one of the best knives I've ever owned. I had a heck of a time initially hitting ...

One of my favorite Spydies of all time. I bought one and my youngest Son appropriated it from me. Bought a second and realized that I needed a backup. I now own three - and all three get carried and used regularly.

Re: Ceramic Bench Stone

I use the bench stones for sharpening a whole range of tools, including knives, chisels, cabinet scrapers and plane irons. I absolutely *hate* flattening waterstones. Hate it. Hate it. Hate it. Always have. The ceramic stones (as well as most nickel/diamond plates) never dish or go out of flat under...

Re: Apple to make gold-ceramic 'alloy' for watches.

Personally, I think it is due to the flood of all those cheap "gold coated" drill bits at the BigBox hardware stores. That stuff is absolute cr@p - once the coating wears through in a short amount of time, you can't resharpen them. That is just one more symptom of our disposable culture. B...

Re: How about a salt mule?

Was just going to say a stainless mule seems like a great idea but then was waylaid with a G-10 Salt. Kinda wish I had more need for a stainless type knife. I may have to put something besides a set of wood scales on this bad boy. Maybe I'll work on texturizing some canvas micarta... This might be ...
