eg; for the SpydeRench, we tooled up in the US, Taiwan and China and still couldn't make the model to our quality standards at a competitive price. Lost our shirts & pants on that one.

As u.w. mentioned, the work hardening properties prevent flat grinding the steel, except slowly by hand.

I bet a 5 axis waterjet could do it :) , but that would definitely not be economically feasible for production runs.

If he is issued an OKC-3S bayonet, the Military will match pair with it very well size and capability wise.

I haven’t tested either to their limits as far as toughness goes but I can tell you that the edge on Lc200n will definitely roll before it chips.
Does it respond well to being steeled or burnished back into alignment?

Another vote for Imgur
Imgur gets a lot of revenue from ads, and has a large userbase and community viewing those advertisements, so it is not going anywhere anytime soon.

Re: What would you like to see next from Byrd?

2. Fixed blades. One of my most frequently EDC'd knives these days is a $25 fixed blade from another company. It's simple, lightweight, and came with a great sheath. I'd like to see some Byrd fixed blades under $50 that offer simple, work horse designs for a low price. I wonder how much an 8Cr Mule...

Re: Do I need a honing rod with Sharpmaker?

If you want the angle guidance of the Sharpmaker combined with a minimum of steel removal, a pair of ultra fine sharpmaker rods might do the trick. I do not have a pair yet (I have not gotten around to mastering the basic set, but just ordered a pair of CBN rods so I can reprofile my Military). For ...

Re: Is this a byrd knife?

I think it is an Imperial Schrade, first made in Ireland, later china. After Taylor bought the schrade name (USA Schrade of NY went under in '03 I believe), this pattern turned up in a few off brand chinese makes. Yep, that is it: https://www.bladehq.com/item--Schrade-Imperial-Lockback-Knife-3--49198

Re: Is this a byrd knife?

Another piece of absolute proof that this is not a Byrd is the sharpening Choil.
IRRC Sal tries to avoid them because things can get hung up in the sharpening choil instead of getting cut.

Re: Why No SAK or MT from Spyderco?

I want a Spyderench. I’ve always wanted one. I still want one. I would even be happy with the Byrd version. I too would like to see another run of Byrdrench; I somehow missed it. It would probably live in my contingency tool pouch that I sometimes carry. If it were too big for that, I would keep it...

Re: Why no steel strops?

Kitchen knives are still often a bit softer than modern pocket knives, and so benefit from edge realignment. I personally use a ceramic coated rod from Smokey Mountain Knife Works, much less expensive than a proper polished steel rod. I have never seen anything like it anywhere else. It looks matte,...

Re: Very DISAPPOINTED w/ laminated steel sprint runs

What does one *do* with a carp that big??? ...or any carp for that matter. People use them here in Aus as Shotgun target practice when they "wallow" in the warm shallow water. And then leave them on the bank/waters edge for the herons, hawks, eagles to eat. I hope they are using steel or ...

Re: Tip-down (heresy? maybe not...)

In my experience, tip down works for any length of blade, from Cricket to Military and larger. Tip down does not.

I came to this conclusion early on and have stuck to it since, as I don't want to be screwing with my muscle memory by switching between the two.

At least one production run in partial serrations please.

I used to carry a serrated and nonserrated pair of G-10 Police, until I got one of the last ComboEdge Military.

I'm looking forward to the FRN model in K390. sal Any chance of a run of Partial Serration? Looks more like FRN than G10 to me, and it is different from the 2018 catalog version.
