Re: Unpopular Blade Steels That You Like?

Back in the day (70s-80s) Puma used a basic stainless (1.4110, more or less similar to 440B) that they hot forged and heat treated well. It was easy to get sharp, and held an edge better than the 440C available (Buck). I once tested it against Benchmade 440C on cardboard, and it lasted about 10% lon...

Re: October and Rex45

I carried this one on a seven day backpacking trip the week before last (AT through the Smokies end to end). It was strenuous and plenty sweaty. It got a few pepper marks on the blade, which would likely have been worse if I had not wiped it down with Vaseline before the trip.

I think Knifeworks should definitely run their green/204p combo in the Para 3 as well. That would be an instant sell out.
I agree.

How About a Para 3 in CTS-20CP and Gray G-10?

Count me in if it is ever done. This was the configuration of one of the earliest (first?) PM2 sprints, which I have.

Re: Knife rules for N. Carolina?

TN is close by, and has no blade length limit statewide. And has more generous handgun carry laws than the Carolinas. Lots of places to do the things you want to do.

Re: Pocket wear, Native 5 Lightweight

The contact point is at the edge of the emblem. I found sanding a bit to be helpful.

I just saw an MXG deep carry clip for the N5 LW (my son-in-law has it). It seemed nice, less intrusive to the palm than I was expecting, and it makes the knife all but disappear.

Re: Pocket wear, Native 5 Lightweight

I sanded the sharp ridges under the clip a bit. It is better than th eG10 models, which shred my pocket unless I lightly sand them as well.

Re: CPM M4 vs K390

DMT fine is supposed to be 600, EF is 1200. But his depends on how new they are. A new one is much more aggressive than one that has been used a while and broken in. I like the mellowed out version that has been used. This puts the Spyderco medium rod between the DMT fine and EF, the Spyderco white ...

Re: Native 5 Maxamet and a LONG overdue thank you

It is clear that a lot of thought went into the handle design. As for the washer contact area, it may be similar to the washers in the G10 models because although the "washer" is thnner, the lightweight handles have a much larger diameter where the blade makes contact - which may actually ...

[quote=Mattysc42 post_id=1306484 time=1550341454 user_ S110v usually doesn’t feel particularly aggressive to the touch but cuts for a long time. [/quote] Interesting. I have found S110V to be quite aggressive. If I cut thin polyethylene (Saran Wrap type) it wants to snag rather than cut cleanly, muc...

Re: I never want to hear about "chippy" steel ever again

I’ve chipped every steel I’ve used except 3v and lc200n, even at somewhat conservative angles (16-18dps). None of those steels (s30v, s35vn, s110v, aus8, vg10, 14c28n, xhp, 20cv, cruwear, zdp189, hap40, maxamet) chipped noticeably worse than any other. My knives cut hundreds of feet of cardboard to...

No worries.

Are you using the ceramic rods or the diamond or CBN rods? That may be the difference.

One I left out - the Sharpmaker with diamond or CBN. If its primary purpose is to reprofile at a consistent angle this might also work.

School Me On Guided Sharpeners

I have sharpened freehand for many years, since Buck's 440C was the best thing going (like the 110 I purchased in 1976). Arkansas stones. Then eventually DMT when the more recent steels started coming out, and even a belt sander (but it is easy to mess up blades with it). What I want: - An effective...
