I've been striving to procure 1 of this model through a multitude of retailers since it was announced, but have been totally shut out. Today was particiulary disappointing. Clicking & calling within seconds of an email notification was not fast enough to get an order in. BladeHQ disclosed to me...

The only other carbon fiber Spyderco i have is the S30v Chaparral. The Chief's CF is lighter in color and smoother but you can still feel the weave. https://i.imgur.com/dt4wxX9.jpg I believe the chap is G10/CF laminate and the Chief is solid CF. I noticed that my maple chap has a small clear sticker on the scale where the curve of the clip meets the scale--roughly in the middle of the scale. I don't think they wood will crack there, but I suppose the clip could abrade the finish or wood under a lot of use. No worries for me, I bought it to...

knives with the satin stonewash finish (techno 2, mcbee, paysan etc) all have nicely rounded spydieholes. The only knife I find to be too sharp in my collection is the Kapara. It always hooks and shaves bits of fingernail, and it is sharp enough to cut skin.
