Re: I'll see your Spyderco and raise you another!
I was up all night dealing with the downpours, so I faded back and went for a sure bet. That said, also allows mixing three gambling motifs. (Plus a tip of the hat to Terence Stamp and Laurence Juber) I'll see your Remote Release Gen 1 AUS 8 SE,and raise with a Domino Red Weave CF, CTS-XHP PE, sku C...

Re: I'll see your Spyderco and raise you another!
Hello Reject, Sorry if I made a muddy foot-fault. I'll post a pic with another raiser in the a.m./daylight. In fact per your note, I'll post the BBF Elmax version--would that be OK? When I grabbed the Remote Release from an Uncle Bill roll, the Orange Urban was nestled nearby. Boxes are stored, so I...

Re: Civilian vs slash resistant shirt
Hmm, shallow superficial incision/lac 40% of circumference of forearm, suggests it was not too brisk or he would likely have cut deeply into the extensor group. How could he not be aware of the cut, and disengage? Maybe channeling Ahnold: https://www.youtube.com/embed/2_q5-MFu9QU?start=37&end=41

Re: Snapit Salt
I will get one eventually. It will be a good fishing knife clipped to my bibs. Just a headsup re: kraton inserts and mosquito repellent/DEET. Residual DEET contaminant will degrade kraton slowly and inexorably, as well as alti/baro watch cases like Suunto and Casio. Seems fine when put away after u...

Re: Pocket knife perfection---Chaparral
Yes indeed. Along with the fine ergonomics with usage, it *carries* well. Particularly with dress slacks/suit, the Chappie (shoutout to Neil /;-) is unobtrusive; light weight, slim profile, secure yet slick clip/scale/slack interface so no slack shredding. Exhibits none of that pocket sag or twist t...

Re: Best Spyderco for Mountain Climbing?
A friend of mine *did* use a knife to salvage one of his Everest summit attempts, for a peculiar and unanticipated application. (more below) First, though, to answer your question within the Spyderco realm, you'd do fine with any number of spydie models--Salt, Delica, Native, Stretch. On the mountai...

Re: Finally bought a dedicated SAR knife!
Strong work, and thanks for your SAR activities. One degree of separation, from way back, incl. Kurt Wbg (I'm an old-timer who also tromped with his dad John decades ago); Bob R (birthday in two days, doing well after his stroke), Myles and Amy, etc etc. best of times and best wishes to you nicked.o...

Re: CS Exclusive Orange Paramilitary 2 DLC CTS-XHP
Online 3 1/2 hrs , tried to check out every 10-15 mins between tasks, but could never load checkout.aspx, "site too busy". Finally able to call in my order, no problem. This one will probably end up as a gift after a certain friend gets to handle it, in which case I may get another for mys...

Re: Five day off-trail backpacking trip in the Wind Rivers
Howdy GoldenSpydie, "Where have you backpacked in the Sierra? I would like to learn more about that range and plan a trip there in the next few years." All over, since my first backpacking there in the '60s, with lots of backcountry phases/foci thru the years. (ski mountaineering, rock cli...

Re: Top reasons to always carry a knife? What are yours?
When a knife is the best tool for a task, anything else is a poor substitute.
Of course, a knife can also sub-optimally substitute for other tasks, such as cleaning one's toenails vs. peeling an apple. Not necessarily in that order. ;)

Re: Five day off-trail backpacking trip in the Wind Rivers
Magnificent! What a great place and time to share with friends. Nice photo catch of the "water devil." I've seen them in the Sierras (thanks to the Sierra Zephyr/ Washoe Zephyr), of course the good news is that windy times means fewer flying skeeters and such. Thanks for posting the TR and...

Re: So I did some walking... and thinking...
Thanks for the fine photos and well-crafted contemplative post. (although you threw me with the "30 minute drive to Golden") Beautiful area, especially when outside the lottery permit season. When the hordes are tramping, one can find plenty of solitude nearby, e.g Langley, Russell etc. Wi...
