Thanks for the information. I'd like to emphasize that my 'test' was very informal, and my preference now for a (coarse) plain edge is mostly subjective. The serrated delica I used had its factory edge still on it, it's still shaving sharp. I don't know, maybe (when I get a spare delica ;-)) I'll do...

Your replies have been very informative. You all have given me some good points to think about. Meanwhile, I have been conducting some very informal testing with two sharp delicas, one plain and the other serrated. I executed various cuts across rolled up newspaper loosely covered with T-shirt fabri...

Thans Jody, I also really appreciate the mindset that's being trained in my Iaido classes. There is much more emphasis on situational awareness during training. Keeping tabs on your fellow students, and even my teacher who has a tendency to test your awareness during the various exercises. I really ...

Plain versus serrated in self defense
I have read some previous threads on this topic, but I am still not quite satisfied by the answers given, so here's my attempt. I am interested in plaine versus serrated in the following situation: - The knife is a folder, with a maximum 4 inch blade - The knife will only be used for self defense, i...

I always carry my folders front IWB, which has also been referred to as 'appendix-carry'. Bob Kasper has explained it a few times, as his favorite mode of carry for fixed blades. I find it allows for a very fast draw and deployment of the blade (mostly a Military these days). Also, I can reach the f...

Iaido
In addition to Jiu Jitsu and Aikido, I have been taking the sword art of Iaido lately. It's lots of fun, difficult too. My teacher, who is also my aikido teacher, commented that I had a certain aptitude or 'talent' for working with the sword. Mmm, I wonder why ;-). Anyway, I think that even an old s...

First of all, the Military will do anything you van reasonably ask from a folder. The Military has some features which, to me, makes it stand out from the average utility folder. Due to the excellent flat grind, the Military is an excellent folding chef's knife. As a student I am regularly invited t...

u4ea, good choice. The Delica is a lot of 'bang' for the buck. I don't think you will be disapointed by the Delica, whatever use you put it to. It seems that you want your knife to fill the duty of utility and defense. For that purpose a fully serrated blade is better. The tend to stay sharp longer,...

If you like the MOD razorback, but only think that it is unconvenient to carry, I would suggest the new Ayoob folder by Spyderco. It has a very similar profile to the Razorback, but it folds and has a nice radical blade/handle angle, for positive alignment of the hand and wrist. You have to see it, ...

I for one, feel that more colored handles could do a lot to make the knives more appealing to non-knife-knuts, well that and a low price of course. To the so-called 'sheeple' the colour black alone seems to have a strong weapon connotation, at least that's my personal experience. Coloured handles co...

About the forthcoming blue Delica
I am really excited about the release of the blue handled Delica. I think that the color alone will make them very good users in front of the general public. Oh..and it's pretty too <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> My question is: are they going to be part of the regula...

How about a Spyderco custom shop?
The place to get modified versions of existing Spyderco models, for example: - a fully serrated Moran - a Military with a selection of G10 colored handles such as: desert/tan, green, camo, blue. - Endura/Delica with Military style 'thumb serrations' - Different colored concealex sheaths for the Mora...

How about a fully serrated FBO1 Moran? Or a spyderco custom shop to fulfill those wishes for: (after market)serrations, different color handles, sheaths, swedges, etc. While I am at it, something crazy: a fixed blade Civilian, fully serrated, 5 inch blade, concealex sheath. Maybe something for the M...
