Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

Does anyone know how many Ayoobs were made in this batch?

Was it 1200 total like a normal sprint, or 1200 PE / 1200 SE?

Also, does anyone have a line on a PE model in stock anywhere?

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

Did some testing of the Ayoob 3.0's shallow SE pattern against a roll of carpeting. Happy to report that while the SE seems quite smooth, it still has a good bit of bite and cutting aggression, allowing the Ayoob to cut through sturdy home carpet with a single pull without any snagging. https://i.ib...

Re: Ranking Sprint Runs? Recent & Past models?

I love Sprint Runs. I find these re-issue, upgraded models one of the cooler aspects of being a Spyderco fan. For probably the last 12 years the majority of my day to day EDC has been with: -CPM-D2 Foliage Green Military Sprint -G10 Black Ayoob Sprint -Endura Super Blue Sprint -Cruwear Ayoob SE Spri...

Re: SE performance is more than simply teeth vs no teeth.

Putting Ayoob through some use now. The SE pattern is very shallow / minimally spiky, quite a bit less so then any of my other Spydercos. I was concerned that this minimal spikiness would basically be a wavy PE, and lack enough of the SE 'bite' into materials that allows for good pullcuting. Very pl...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

First cuts with the Ayoob, SE cuts quite smoothly on fine cardboard, quickly shortening the coke box so that it fits in the fridge door, and creating a popular little chew toy for the pup.

Back from the spa treatment, it’s a little leaner and ready to mingle. Time to get put to use! Hollow grind courtesy of John with BGM.

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

The different serration angle and patterns makes me wonder, when SE knives are sent back to Spyderco HQ for their sharpening service, what does the factory use to re-sharpen SE?

Re: Elastic Ceramic. Wow!

I wonder if there is a way to make it 100% non metal? That would be a definite sales point for some people, because of the 'unique' factor. I think you certainly could. Delrin pivot screw Carbon fiber button lock Berilyium copper (non magnetic) button spring If it weren't for the legalities, a butt...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

I think for both SD and fine Utility tasks, you want a tip thats as thin and razor sharp as possible while maintaining stiffness (ie wont flex or bend on impact like a cheap steak knife). That was a major goal of the Fairbairn Skyes dagger, among others, a needle sharp thin tip. ......................

Re: Massad Ayoob Cruwear vs Original comparison pics

Excellent review / analysis. I hadn't even realized the newer model is less pointy / had a different profile tip to the original until you mentioned it. I wonder what inspired that change? Probably has something to do with the hollow grinding process and wheel. None of the ones I've handled have pe...

Re: C-60 Ayoob Campaign: No I Won't Shut Up

I'm glad they thickened the tip. I obviously LOVE Spyderco's line of self defense knives, and carry one daily. (IMO)Thin tips are a flaw with many of them. Even my favorite, the P'kal. I know everything is a trade off, and Spyderco leans heavy into cutting being the number one priority. On a utilit...

A serrated ceramic spyderco would put us close to the futuristic spyderco described in William Gibsons cyberpunk novel Virtual Light.

Ok so I decided I'll put the comparison pics in here because really I don't know if I can say much more than Mark Greenman said in his thread about performance because my experience mirrors his pretty much to the letter, so I don't feel like I need to make a whole new thread about the benefits of t...

Re: Gauntlet vs Sharpmaker

I have known about the Gauntlet since seeing the first drawings and SLA model, through the patent application, patent, and prototype, and like the user safety factor of the base over the SharpMaker, however, we sell very few Gauntlets vs SharpMakers (selling SharpMakers since 1980-81) due to the Ga...

You should find how old, vintage SE model looked like and I'll see what is the matter. They're just different.
