Re: If you could resurrect one discontinued model what would it be?

I would like a G10 Poliwog.

I really enjoyed mine and was unable to replace it when I lost it.

I normally carry whatever is the sharpest. I am pretty lazy with sharpening.

Re: Tell Me about The Mantra 3!!

I think it is just how it flows more than an actual recurve. I have the Mantra 2 and like it when I want something slender in pocket, but I am not a huge fan of flippers. If I got the 3, I think grinding a small sharpening choil would be enough to break up the line for me. It looks like a nice Knife.

Re: Heirloom Spyders?

In my opinion, the vast majority of Spyderco knives are not heirloom objects on their own merit. They are fantastic tools, but I don't consider a 20 year old NIB Delica to be an heirloom. Something like Deacon's bolstered Stretch gifted by Sal or a hand made prototype would be much closer. Another p...

Re: How easily does M4 patina?

From my uses, it takes a while. I have a few in M4 and they take a while to develop a nice steely tone like ZDP-189.

It is nothing like Super Blue or 52100 that will discolor in no time at all.

Re: Larger Chaparral?

What is your preferred lock type? I love the compression locks because I do sit and fidget with my knives. I haven’t tried a Manix 2 yet, and I don’t mind more back locks if they get the job done. I’m really not into liner locks and frame/integral locks. I’d choose the PM2 blade stock over those. Y...

Re: Larger Chaparral?

Spyderco has some good slicers in that size. I have regularly used the Stretch, Caly 3.5, PE Dyad blade, Mantra 2, Chokwe, and JD Smith on apples and other fruits. All work well. Not quite as large, but the Delica is a great one too. What is your preferred lock type?

Re: Spyderco Models That You Consider As SUPER CLASSICS

Some wonderful knives mentioned in this thread.

I am a little saddened for the lack of love of the Stretch/Hunter line. Great knives.

I think the Caly 3.5 in Aogami Super Blue fits the role for me. Great knife in a great steel.

Re: Caly 3 EDC perfection? Could we see a compression?

The 3.5 was a Caly 3 designed for me. I prefer a longer blade. I'm currently experimenting with a possible Caly 3.5 in a light weight with nested liners like the Endura. Bi directional texture, with another maker. We usually don't like to change makers, but if the FRN version is popular, we'll need...

While G10 or CF would make for some nice scales, I would be happy with any frn 52100 leaf shaped UKPK.

Re: What’s your favorite or most used Spyderco?

A SE ZDP189 Endura has been in my back pocket for the better part of the last decade. It is definitely my most carried.

My most used would be a Caly 3 or Delica as work frowned upon larger knives.

My favorite is my Military. It is just a little to big for me to edc.

Re: Vivi Pass-around

It's my opinion that considering the ways most people use pocket knives, they'd benefit from a thinner edge than they ship with from the factory. You replied to a thread last winter regarding thinner edges. I don't remember the details, but It was enough for me to take the edge down to about 10 deg...

Re: Another Rit Dye?

I didn't think I would care much for the bright blue scales when I bought the knife. After using it for a bit, it darkens up with grit sort of like the gray sb caly. It is a lot less obnoxious after some use. I can try and take a pic of mine in the morning when I have some light.

Re: How good is the Chaparral - and is the Ti worth it?

I have the CF and LW Chaparral. It is a great little office knife. I don't really have a preference between the two. I do like the Caly 3 more than the Chaparral though. Here is a pic with the Urban.
