Hi PSquared, thanks for this review. I'm the designer of this folder. Yes you're right it's a bit hard to release the lock. I have a Gay Bradley (I love it), so I knew very well how the lock would work on the Hungarian. There are two reasons of this solution. First I didn't want to modify the authe...

Very quick first impressions

I picked up my Hungarian from the post office this morning. A few very quick first impressions and a few quick and dirty cell phone photos. On the comparison side vs a BM Torrent that I saw similarities to before I bought the Hungarian (blade shape, polished G10, liner lock and then it stops), CRKT ...

That's a very good list that Blake did. My choices for the OP would still be Cento 3 if he was mostly slicing stuff and light use (particularly with the 2mm blade stock) and FRN Native if he wanted something a bit stouter - fills the hand better (arguably), less cutting edge, choil, 3mm blade stock....

Jack
That's exactly what I thought until I got one. In an office environment I prefer to keep below a 3 inch blade ... this is a 3.5 inch blade in a 3 inch body.

Even as a recent convert to the Caly 3.5, the results surprise me. I was really expecting the Para2 to surge way ahead of everything else. I'm sure that this makes interesting reading for the Spyder Crew as well - this is "use" rather than "sales" even though it is a very small s...

Most of the photos are of the Super Blue / Grey G10 sprint run (last year / early this year?) but there are a few of the standard production VG10 / Black G10 (my photo in post #26 and looks like post #45 as well). The standard model is still a magic piece of design and production.

Yeah, that's what I want to do. I want to believe that he would be open minded, use the knife and learn to love it, even though it's not what he's used to. But sometimes that is a big expectation of a 72 year old man. ;) . My dad was a bit older when I got him a Ladybug for his key chain. He hadn't...

This thread just needed a bump back to the first page for those thinking about getting Christmas presents for themselves. I still don't know why it took as long as it did to get a Caly 3.5 but almost a month after I got it the "****, this is a great knife" feeling hasn't worn off. 20+ year...

Let us know when the Caly 3.5's come in and what you think Just had a surprisingly painless round with customs and opened the box that had, among other things, my Caly 3.5. My very first reaction was, while still opening the familiar red and black box was that they had sent me a G10 Caly 3 by mista...

For years my mom had an old Joseph Rogers that she got when she started working in a nursery in the 1950s. When she died I found it amongst her stuff and cleaned and sharpened it. It lives with my slippies now. My dad's Joseph Rogers - matched my mom's (but I think it was like a model T, you have an...

Hey Sparki, here's a photo of the 3.5 next to the PM2. Sorry not the best pic, took it with my phone. Gives you an idea at least. http://i751.photobucket.com/albums/xx160/trevitrace/IMAG0467_zps960caf15.jpg If I hadn't ordered one earlier in the week, this would have pushed me over the edge. Assuming you don't really need a knife daily as an integral part of your job and could make do with a box cutter or scissors for occasional cutting tasks, I don't see a problem. If people manage without a knife at all (something I personally don't understand but that is another story) you should man...

If you are wanting teeth rather than a plain edge (judging by the models linked), I'd suggest a full serrated edge rather than a "half pregnant" combo edge. To all intents and purposes the combo edge Native is a full serrated edge more than a combo edge in my opinion. With teeth, I'd take ...

Put the scales on the steel that you are going to use. There is no point in getting the stunning Cuscadi scales and then putting them on something that might not want to use (a sprint steel) or something that you may struggle to sharpen (the ZDP). If you are happy to sharpen ZDP and will use a "...

Bumping this up again. Is there any feedback on an indicative release date? There doesn't seem to be too much enthusiasm about this. I think it is pretty interesting and will no doubt pick one up. Appreciate the replies thank you!! ABX, I stand corrected, cladding. As you say, substantially thicker than a few microns of coating Aside from the edge and slightly above it, the only places the "core steel" on a laminated blade is exposed would be anywhere the cross section of the blade ...

Question on the laminated Super Blue

A few questions regarding the laminated Super Blue that is being used on the Endura, Delica and Stretch. I live right by the sea and whilst I generally don't have problems with my carbon steel kitchen knives because I can see what is happening on the blades and if a bit of rust forms I can see it an...

Wish it had a lanyard hole, though. I just had a look at mine - you might be able to put a lanyard on the barrel spacer at the back. If it is nice and tight, there should be enough clearance so the blade doesn't nick it when closed. An interesting design with an interesting background but not a kni...
