I believe it is an improvement. The lock is stronger, the blade opens smoother than the original. The bladeplay issue seems to be resolved. The knife is a little lighter. The Chinook II also uses S30V. I know that a few of the Chinook I's had S30V. The point on both knives is at the same place. I kn...

How comfortable is it to hold the knife with your pinky outside the ring instead of through it?

What would you think of a smaller Perrin collaboration?

I really love the knife, but am limited to 4" and under by law. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I am sure I'm not alone in this. I was thinking how much I would like to see a slightly smaller version of the Perrin, with say a 3.5" to 4" blade. An...

UPS dropped mine off today. The Chinook II reminds me of myself. Silky smooth and plenty of belly. :D I am impressed. Opens very smoothgly. No bladeplay in any direction. Not too heavy, but plenty solid feeling. All screw construction. I like it. It will see a lot of time in my carry rotation.

I almost always prefer PE, that is just my personal preference though. I find that PE works better for me in most situations. If I were cutting a lot of rope or fiberous material I would opt for serrated.

What was the concept of the Chinook?

I've got one of the Chinook II's on the way. Looks like an awesome folder. Can anyone discuss, in detail, what Mr. Keatings vision of a fighting folder is and how it the Chinook embodies that vision? I have been told there was an article in Fighting knives that discussed his vision.

This pic was taken by firebat. I think it really shows off the knife. makes me want one even more.

Has the point been lowered slightly on the Chinook II or is it just an optical illusion?

I can't believe this one hasn't been mentioned. I'll admit that picking "the best" Spyderco is hard to do. If I had to pick only one it would be the ATR. The Chinook II and persian would be close behind though.
