Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

35 years ago, I worked at a place that had many sets of metal rolls that measured 55"D x 80"L, and 35"D x 80"L. They were all certified at 72 HRC. Wish I had paid attention to the alloy and maker, but the only thing that jumped out reading the cert was the hardness. Yea there's ...

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

Great question Evil. Traditionally we've been taught you don't get anything for free, and that everything related to steel is a tradeoff. Based on that line of thinking the hardest steel would certainly be brittle. But we are also at the cusp of some really wild times in technology. The players (not...

#mindblown was the exact same feeling I had as well.

Hopefully, this makes it into a production pocket knife sooner rather than later.

Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

Was gettin' my "new steel tech" geek-on earlier (admittedly and unashamedly, btw) :D Then it dawned on me, I haven't seen Vibenite 290 mentioned here (or over on blade forums), and decided to share. The Company, VBN Components AB, located in Uppsala, Sweden, launched Vibenite 290 in Nov 20...

Re: DLC SE Dodo...A plea to BladeHeadquarters (BHQ)

I'm with you, and have known why for some time now. It's not a big deal. They have every right to want what the heart wants. Guess I view it similar to paying $140.00 for a prime cut of Wagyu steak and smothering it with A1 sauce. Sure one could do it, but, it just seems so barbaric. Stainless deser...

Re: G10 Ink Stain Help

Inexpensive cleaning product called "Awesome" found at many grocery stores will take ink and magic marker off of Formica counter tops. Plus, it's a lot less likely to strip the orange, than dye remover. Also if it doesn't work on the G10 can be used to clean around the house. G10 looks way...

Re: DLC SE Dodo...A plea to BladeHeadquarters (BHQ)

DLC on reactive steels? I can see the value. Especially when it seems to at least help hold oil to protect the pivot from corrosion and rust. M4 could use it. But putting it on stainless, does not compute. At least in my mind. At any rate, I am really looking forward to finally getting a chance to t...

Re: "HRC as advertised." Who is accurately listing HRC?

For the new guys, hope this helps at least one of you. Old timers feel free to skip to the next post. What some are stressing about is, they don't want you to fall into a mode of thinking where you simply compare knives based on their respective HT/RC (Heat Treat/Rockwell Hardness) numbers alone. It...

Re: Niobium-Alloyed Knife Steels Explained - S110V, S35VN, Niolox, and More

Another great article Larrin. Thank you for sharing! As I was reading, I kept imagining a computer program that had sliding bars for each element, parameters for heat treat, cryo, tempering, time, etc But with so many non-linear variables, and different steel forming processes, etc. This task would ...

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

I like having the ability to quickly open my knife with one hand and quickly close with one hand. When cutting things that can't be set down right away, having a blade that drops shut is a very important feature. Or the scenarios where I need both hands free as soon as possible, after making the cu...

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

Ease of use. I can take out my spydie, use the thumb hole to open it in a single motion, then use the compression lock tab to close it in a single motion. Makes taking it out, making a cut and putting it back in my pocket a quick and fluid motion. This is useful when your other hand is full, or you...

Re: Why is having the blade drop closed such a big deal?

The heart wants what the heart wants. Feels ever so much more fluid letting gravity close a Golden compression lock. No fingers in the way, so no resistance needed, and no safety requirements. I do not figit but it's so safe you don't really have to even think about it. It just feels faster, or mayb...
