Re: Micro Bevel Matter?

Hey Bloke,
Can you carve a stick to resemble a birds head, an if it has any knots, use one for an eye. Then add some feather stick curls to give it a beard and sideburns?

O wait, nevermind....

Re: Trendy steels

There are many reasons why people flock to Spyderco as a brand. For me, the two biggest reason are design, and steel options. I've already found a design that works good enough for me in my daily work EDC (and have backups). I could easily call it a day and walk away. The main reason why I'm here no...

Re: Trendy steels

Not into stainless steels that are a pain to sharpen. I'd rather go with a steel that skews towards toughness and ease of sharpening. If you took a hard pass on two knives that were $150 each, and took that $300 and bought all three of the new Venev double sided resin bonded diamond bench stones. I...

What steels and scales combos would one like to see?
Curtain colors and materials don't concern me much, long as they aren't pink or fuchsia.

HAP 72 on a Stretch 3 would fly off the shelves.

Re: Polished or Toothy finishes

Jim, If you still have as large an assortment of high end knives that I assume you may still have. You owe it to yourself to try these new stones. I have tried and own a pretty extensive sets of different stones. My favorites to date, are naniwa resin bonded. But even so, I still seek out the latest...

Re: Polished or Toothy finishes

Either finish, at factory angles is one thing, and makes for a fun discussion, but if you are seriously wanting performance, lower angles are where it's at. If you can try different angles, lower than what the sharp maker allows. You will see your edge improve as you get shallower and shallower. The...

Re: Manix 2 Cruwear Smooth G10

It's understood they want certain steels to be reserved for sprints, Cruwear being one of those.

But c'mon already, since no one has commissioned the XL in Cruwear, How 'bout a Flash batch?

Insta-buy for me.

If it sells out in Five minutes, then immediately second run.

Not really understanding why that would make you happy?

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

V350 stainless 20% carbide at 60 hrc? meh... I'd probably opt for V280 20% carbide in the middle range, say 66-67 hrc. Yea I get it. I too, am kinda meh on low edge retention offerings as well, in this case however my thinking was more in line with testing purposes. More so for that part of the com...

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

lol Mako, that's hilarious because the whole time I was reading it I was seeing it as the pronunciation vib-in-ite. Totally missed it.
:o
Split shifts have me all out of whack rite now. Too funny though, ya sicko :D

That'd be over the top if it was actually pronounced Vibe-Nite.

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

Cool animations, I'd like to see the real thing. Me too, JP If I had a 3D-rendering of a decent (say mule sized) fixed blade. I'd certainly be willing to contact them with intent to have it mocked up (rough finish). Plus, I'd also be willing to forward it along to BBB, if he's interested in giving ...

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

I still feel that the more conventional pm steels have a lot of potential not fully realized. There are also some steels we have yet to see. Not quite time to jump ship yet boys. Agreed, just wanted to say. CPM S35VN was one of the only steels designed specifically for cutting blades/knives. But is...

Re: Vibenite 290, Hardest Steel in the World?

Like you, Chris, I believe 3d printing and its more advanced variations, as time goes on, will prove to the skeptics to yield all that conventional steel-making gives us, as well as new properties that fundamentally change the way things are in the materials world. I am also very glad that Sal, Eri...

vid says "any shape", so barstock is possible, but they could cut out the rough blade, and rough the angle. Saving you a pile of belts.

lol That's the beauty of it, there is no bar stock in the traditional sense. They can 3d a rough blade easily enough though, for a fee.
But, I know you were just razzin' me.
