Vassili, do you mean that your test is the only one that is accurate, that is why you are disregarding every single opinion from makers or steel manufacturers contradicting you? I have yet to see someone else putting in writing that 420HC is superior to M2... Here are a few thoughts from Joe Talmad...

Well, I tried before to compare commonly accepted theories with results of tests, but I am not doing it now. In Scientific Methodology (I checked it in wikipedia) this is not job of tester to make results to match theory but vise versa. Test results may be wrong, but to find it out you need to compa...

My manila rope cutting test shows this steel being best edge holding steel among production knives so far, performs almost same as Dozier and take 2nd place. See results here: http://playground.sun.com/~vasya/Manila-Rope-Results.html CPM S90V is not really good edge holder, possible because of high ...

It will be excellent model. I also ask for ZDP189 blade. I have SS one with ATS-55, and really like look and design. I would also suggest frame lock and have G10 or CF on side opposite to lock - it will be just perfect little knife!

Thanks, Vassili.

Hi Vassili, Not everyone wants exotic, hard to sharpen steels. All steels are good and each have their advantages and disadvantages; Edge retention Toughness corrosion resistance price Pick 3 out of the 4. CTS-BD1 is an optimal combination to proivde a good turn of performance for 85% of knife user...

CTS-BD1:

C=0.9
Mn<0.6
Mo=0.3
V=0.1
Si<0.37
Cr<15.75

Does not really looks too much special - GIN-1 with 0.1 Vanadium. In 440B class? It will be interesting to see how will it perform.

Thanks, Vassili.

unlock it with two fingers then swing snap it shut? Is this hard on a knife like this or does it cause any stress to it? Thanks. Point is to unlock it with one finger, which is a case for all knives with locks on a market and so common user experience-expectations. Also there is nothing wrong with ...

Doubtful.....that is unless I need to remove and lubricate the spark plugs after each use. I did not spend to much time maintaining my ZDP-189. I left it in dirt once - no problem, I forgot to wipe stake fat once - no problem as well. But I have polished blade, bead blast make any steel corrosion s...

I used ZDP189 for quite some time now for anything - cutting roots in the ground and digging, cutting aluminum net, drywall, tons of paper (like cutiing 200 sheets notebook and watercolor paper), fresh juice stakes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O0PHxVP6WSo and then http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u...

Tan-To is short-sword, same as nihhon-to - Japanese sword. It was newer considered as a knife and as a type of tip or type of blade. Hamaguri is - shell (like one on Shell logo) and this is popular edge shape for ancient Japanese samurai sword competition (chopping heads of peasants (this is why mos...

I think this is design problem and finger just does not have proper access to lock. Vector of force finger may apply to lock is almost perpendicular to lock movement over 60 degree for sure. In result lock bend and got stuck. So you have to use second finger from other side to apply contra force in ...

What are the pros and cons of these two steels and how do they compare. Those to steel are in different leagues. ZDP189 for 5 years was best steel and only this year Syderco introduced first production knife with something better then it - CTS-XHP. CPM S30V is average level steel. It was created wh...

Seems as if I recall hearing that Eric and Sal had ok'ed extending production up to maybe 1000 units? I was under the belief that it would take some time to make the extra units as production in Golden is a resource that has to be scheduled ahead of time. Deciding to put off deadlines for projects ...
