Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

JackKnifeH, that's exactly what I was trying to explain. That was the first backlock knife I've taken apart and the first FRN Spydie as well. It's 100% my fault for ruining the backspacer stud but I really think these would benefit greatly from a metal one in future models. Deacon, that makes perfe...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

Also on a side note hope you get yours squared away . Mine seems pretty good out of the box as far as centering and lockup . It's a little tight but can open it with a little wrist flick . I never normally adjust mine if at all until after I break them in . Most of my knives are good to go out of t...

Derp, I was reading this right before bed and misunderstood what meant by the "front' of the scale and not doing any more sanding after it was glued on. Makes sense now that I've had some coffee :)

I understand. Coffee is good. :)

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Looking nice so far. What kind of wood are you using? I've used mosaic pins a couple of times. I just cut off a couple pieces just slightly over-length with a Dremel cutoff wheel, glued/pinned the knife together, and then sanded them down with my bench sander the same way I sand everything else. No...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Looks like you're off to a nice start on those. Can't offer much advice but do you plan to leave them flat? Maybe I'm spoiled by the South Fork, but I'm starting to want round and chamfer all of my knives :) The handle will be round. The sides may be a little flat on the sides but there won't be an...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

Removed clamps. This is where it will stay until I get the pin material. Photobucket turned my picture sideways.  :) Don't know what happened. Too tired to fix. Everyone turn your monitor on it's side for a second. :D http://i800.photobucket.com/albums/yy288/jackknifeh/Spyderco%20Mul...

Re: Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

That's some beautiful work there. I'm afraid I can't offer much advice on making the handle as I haven't done one myself. However, you may consider using an epoxy over the titebond. While you're right that titebond is great when you're gluing two wood surfaces, I would be concerned about using it t...

Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P), my first Mule

I am making a handle for the Mule and I need suggestions for getting a sheath when finished. So, I'll need a sheath and I'm pretty sure I will want a neck sheath of kydex. So if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for someone to make a kydex sheath I'd appreciate them. I already have two options I k...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

They always have side-to-side play, even a tiny amount, unless you tighten the pivot with a pneumatic lug wrench. Disengage the lock when checking. Finally got around to stripping the paint off my clip. It looked terrible until I polished it with some 3000 grit, but now it looks great. My Stretch n...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

My NIB Super Blue Stretch arrived today, ordered it on Tuesday so I'm pretty happy with how fast it arrived but I think I may have gotten one of the not so good pieces from this run. The pivot came extremely tight but still has a little side to side play, it's so tight that I can't flick it open li...

Re: I'm Thinking Stretch in Super Blue - Good Choice??

My blue #2 kitchen knives have a patina on the cutting edge that looks almost like the color of carbon steel after a tempering draw to between straw and blue, they don't tend to actually *rust*, but I'm pretty careful not to leave them wet and I rinse/wipe them after cutting any acidic fruits or ve...

Re: would like to see Emerson wave feature on salt series

Welcome to the forum. I've never owned an emerson opening folder. I can see how they would be good for self defense if having the knife open one half a second faster may mean the difference in life and death. But, without even practicing much a regular Spyderco can be retrieved and opened fast enoug...

Re: Who's getting the new mule?

I just ordered the Mule Team 20 (CTS B70P). Looking forward to getting it, making a handle and using it. I have a few days I guess to decide on the handle material. I have some wood scales now I ordered a month or two ago but forget what I have. :) Do the mule's come sharp like a "normal" ...

Kreg Jig K4 system

Has anyone used the Kreg joint systems? I became aware of them a few years ago and really thought it was a nice tool. I also have tried to pre-drill holes and countersink them with a regular drill. My advice is don't try that. Not on joints that need to look good anyway. Has anyone heart the kids st...

Re: Ceramic Bench Stone

I see where folks that hone get into a bunch of different stones to do this with. Setups like 600, 1k, 3k, 5k, 10k and 20k. The same thing can easily be seen in sharpening knives. There are people who take ~hour to sharpen a knife and use literally a dozen grit transitions. To produce the finest fi...

Hey guys! My name is Gavin and I am one of Murray's apprentices(of two forging Muteki kitchen and neck knives) and new to forums, so bear with me. The review was great! It's always awesome to get feedback on our work, it's the best way to improve the product and exceed your expectations. I did not ...

Re: Carter Cutlery knife

I do almost all the cooking at my house, but I get yelled at if I sharpen all the knifes in the kitchen because the ladies cut themselves too much. I have my chef's knife that I use and I keep it sharp and everyone avoids it LOL. A funny thing (sort of) happened that makes my wife appreciate a real...

Re: Carter Cutlery knife

A week or two ago I walked into the kitchen and there was wife cutting a tomato with the Kuro-uchi knife. I asked how it was cutting. She said cutting the tomato was like cutting through air. This is possibly the first knife I've let go this long without putting my own edge on it. I usually have don...

And then think about how these are related. How do you handle sharpening a knife which has a very low angle edge but the stone needs a high pressure to work?
Wouldn't you want to use another stone type that doesn't require higher pressure?
