Re: S30V -> S35VN & BD1 -> BD1N

Hi David, Check out this new video how long lc200n retains its paper pushcutting edge with simulated kitchen use: https://youtu.be/04q8gnuDgsQ This is why I'm hoping spyderco would consider using it too for their kitchen line. I have used mine a number of times on a plastic chopping board and has n...

Re: S30V -> S35VN & BD1 -> BD1N

Not to derail, but I would rather see LC200N replace S30V. It seems to hold an edge about the same, is easier to sharpen and is much tougher. The extra corrosion protction is lagniappe. David I've heard LC compared to VG10 favorably, but that's the first I've seen it compared to S30V. If that's the...

Re: Endura 4 S110V YOWZA!!!

I had an s110v para 2 when they were released and not sure but at the time I didn't like it and moved on. I have an s110v military out for delivery today and I can't wait to give it a second try! I've learned that I want high edge retention and stainless..... I hate rust. I love tool steels but I c...

Re: Endura 4 S110V YOWZA!!!

If you are an Endura fan (I love my ZDP Endura too) BBS has a good deal on the HAP40 version right now. It's not stainless if corrosion resistance is a factor for you but it takes and holds a really nice edge. It is a heck of a lot easier to sharpen than ZDP as well. On Sale Too! Just blew my knife...

Re: Endura 4 Unrealistic Request

Probably unlikely, but you may find another model that's Golden made in S110V that you like and can live with, like the Military? I think it's pretty safe to assume that the upcoming Shaman will see different steel options eventually, it isn't quite as long in the blade as the Endura (.44 less cutt...

Me thinks maybe the title to this certainly doesn't help it ever happening. "Endura 4 Unrealistic Request" already conveys a negative expectation by you that it could ever happen,...Think POSITIVE man! :) "Endura 4 S110V,...Yeah Baby!" Now that's what you're looking for! Positiv...

Endura 4 S110V YOWZA!!!

I really like the Endura 4, my all time favorite Spyderco. I have had models in both ZDP 189 and VG10. I gave the VG10 model to a friend, but have put a lot of miles on my ZDP 189 Endura 4. I appreciate the edge retention and the high achievable sharpness. Lately I have been using a variety of Spyde...

Re: Asymmetrical edge on M4 (Gayle Bradley Air): How to fix?

I don't have the experience sharpening that many here do, but I wouldn't try to "fix" that edge as I wouldn't want to remove the steel necessary to get a symetrical grind with that deep of an asymetrical bevel cut. If it were me I would use a diamond stone (if you have) or a rough grit (22...

Re: Which of Your Spydercos are you Most Proud of?

I really like that, nice job! David D, the handle contours on that Manix look wonderful. Thanks guys. The contour is only part of the work, it's the liners that sucked out more of my life than anything. It's not easy skeletonizing your own liners. Makes me really appreciate it when Spyderco do it. ...

Definitely my custom Manix 2. I've put so many hours of work into this knife there isn't another one like it anywhere else. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/D-qbnUyEz14j4UC-K24rJsWNKzsZ8Fy1I2vPSpZtUL100TNDy7q6uvQrgUz6cx8VbH_5mZJqZGZAhBMkkmT6xHZBmu9DmFhs6TCowVNIy61ZTZa5GLGH8XAjoMnUyz2DywsiZ1-6di6zJ...

Re: What grits do you use on your different steels?

I've got piles of sharpening stones in a dizzying array of grits, multiple strops with different grits. Seems like I've gotten lazy, but all I ever really use anymore is a super fine diamond stone and either the 400 or 600 grit water stones on my Edge Pro. That combination will get anything I own fr...

Re: Is an endura in ZDP-189 worth 160 bucks?

Not sure what you're asking. Can a ZDP Endura be purchased for less in some markets? Absolutely! On the other hand, If that was the only price I could get one and it fit my hand well, then it's probably worth it. I'm a little biased, the Endura fits my hand very well. The Endura is slim, lightweight...

I reprofiled my mule to 24 deg inclusive. Have used it with and w/o 18 microbevel. No chipping.

Re: Spyderco Caribbean: Will it change everything?

With the sample of one (MT25), LC200n has noticeably better edge retention than VG10. It doesn't chip, is easy to get sharp. I think it will make a great EDC steel for non steel junkies and steel junkies alike.

A D'Allara with LC200N and an upgraded CBBL would get my $ also.

Re: Is it worth stropping Spydies? ... and something about Sharpmaker hard stones

Some steels work better with raising a burr than others. There's no requirement to strop a burr once raised, it can be sharpened out quite easily with medium / low grit stones without leaving a wire and the associated edge damaging chipping (in some steels).
