Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

I am in agreement with Ankerson as far as surviving a nuclear war where more than 30 nuclear weapons are fired off, and these fools have thousands. But you can prep for survival for almost everything right up to the point of nuclear annihilation. Hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, short duration in Sum...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

They are discussing similar material on Survivalist Boards right now. There are a lot of opinions over on the other site, but if the top 100 cities get targeted in the USA, China and Russia, around 1 billion people will be gone. But we are talking about 1000's of ICBMs for the USA and Russia. If 50...

You could do that, but...
You don't want to wipe out the population. You want them to keep buying your stuff. Got antibiotics ?

Why would you want to keep the population?

You would just import your own people. ;)

That was one of the ideologies from the cold war days.

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

I think nuclear war is mostly a thing of the past. You might see San Diego and Hawaii go up to take out the Pacific Fleet, but generally small nukes will be reserved for military targets. The reason is modern warfare is offensive computer warfare. Why destroy the West Coast when you can shut off th...

Re: What Spyderco if you were in the Military?

In honor those of us who served in the military, I thought I'd make this thread. If you were in the military still, or are in the military, which Spyderco would you want to carry and why? I think I'd want an Enuff Salt and an Endura, or perhaps a Moran and an Endura. The Enuff Salt and Moran are li...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

I am still interested in what practical (non-snarky) steps can be taken to increase post-nuke survival, but for some reason, this thread has veered away from the practical. Maybe we can veer it back on track. Unless you are a Billionaire and can afford a huge Shelter with tons of food and water tha...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

A lot of that garbage is conspiracy theories to cater to certain groups programing them to make them feel better. :eye-roll Propaganda is a powerful tool. No Jim, not garbage or propaganda but news that is still available with a search engine. It does sound like conspiracy theory stuff on a late ni...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

Ah you know the CDC and W.H.O. both have the original strain of the Spanish Flu.

It's all on the CDC website, how they found it in a frozen solid person in the artic who had died from it.

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

All Chem and bio weapons weren't designed to kill . Even the most lethal of the biologic s that were designed to be were not 100% fatal. Scientists looking at the genetics of COVID quite clearly stated it was artificially enhanced to make it more communicable. We know where it came from so it was e...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

Jim, we are NBC ( or at least BC) free and so are Russia and china. https://www.npr.org/2023/07/07/1186550955/the-world-is-officially-free-of-chemical-weapons-heres-what-that-means The 30,000 tons we alone held are now gone. We had the last of them supposedly. If an attack is done now it wouldn't b...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

I agree Jim. Our world/society/Nation/way of living is so very fragile anyways... I don't even wanna think about it. Well it's not something to really dwell on because if it happens it really won't make much difference. 99.9% of the population doesn't have the monetary resources to afford something...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

Read voraciously. Don't be lied too. Read what everyone says. Best advice anyone can give. There are often more than two sides to a story. Most things published now are written to influence the reader. And they have links to the source so all the boxes are checked. You can find all kinds of papers ...

The Newsweek link is to a story that quotes people, articles and discusses Scientific American articles on the U.S. Air Force, a Department of Defense (DOD) spokesperson and the 2022 Nuclear Posture Review. There are a lot of Scientific American stories that are readable on their website regarding ...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

Newsweek has long stopped being journalists and gone to clickbait garbage. I remember when they at least tried. The article was about the Princeton University’s Program on Science and Global Security team and their findings. Pretty standard stuff for a magazine to do. And they have links to the sou...

Re: Forward to the past: Fallout preps are a thing again

I’m fascinated by everyone’s perspective, and wouldn’t dissuade anyone from doing what they think appropriate. Kearney’s book is interesting, for sure, but too often it refers to orthodox views being discredited without references, for me to be entirely convinced. On the other hand, google “the eff...
