Re: 52100 steel

So for me the implication is that "hard use" implies the chance for inadvertent or necessary to the task abuse, making an overbuilt blade with tough steel the right choice. As these are not ISO terms anyone is free to use them as they see fit. The issue I have with hard use is that if you...

Re: 52100 steel

52100 is a ball bearing steel. Most ball bearing steels make pretty decent blade steel. Especially where edges are concerned. It is my favorite steel to forge. It is hard to find in sheet. Actually, I would like to do a run of a model in 52100, but I'd prefer to make it in Golden, so it will be a y...

Re: why can't I find a MULE to buy??

From what I understand they're only sold at the SFO so I went to order the XHP blem for $60ish and there aren't any available. No big deal, about 14 of the other steels will work for what I want one for so I start going through them and can't find any available :( Anyone care to share their secrets...

Re: Manix S110V or Military

Sounds heretical, but there is more to a knife than the steel. :spyder: S110V will definitely outperform S30V, all other things being equal, but if the knife doesn't work for you (for any of lots of reasons, such as: bad ergos for you; bad blade shape or type for your uses), it's not the best knife....

Re: Are dealer exclusives ever as desirable as a true sprint run knife?

Just because it can be done again doesn't mean it will be. The CPM M4/G-10/TiRIL Military was a Dealer Exclusive that sold out pretty fast and still seems to be sought after. The only DE I recall seeing a second batch of was the black ZDP-189 Calypso Jr. for Moteng. Pretty sure there were reorders ...

Re: Southard Pivot Bearing Rust w/ Pics

Oxalic acid and similar products will get rust off but will etch the surface of steel - if you want smooth action from the bearings, this will be counterproductive.

Re: SE Para 2? (poll)

Putting a leaf blade into the PM2 would change the knife drastically. I was once a big M2 fan but eventually gravitated toward a knife with less height (top of blade to bottom of handle) when closed. Putting a leaf blade in the PM2 would more or less give you a M2 with a compression lock. That might...

Re: Lowe's Kobalt 18-in-1 Torx Set ? Your thoughts , please ...

I have half a dozen of the Husky Torx sets linked above and they are extremely high quality, which is surprising for the price and source. They fit very well and are very hard. As with any product, including knives, there can be problems with a production run and that is probably what happened to yo...

Re: Ebay seller flipping Stepped Blue Titanium Chaparral's that he got for $19 each

So is this right or wrong? Say a business blatantly overcharges. They consistently do so. They are unapologetic about it and base their business practices off of the priniciple that they charge what they charge and if you don't like it don't buy from them. If they priced something not just lower th...

Re: S110V Para or Military (Any Upcoming News??)

I don't think there's any specific information on Spyderco's S110V dates. For Knifeworks, the best and only information is what Knifeworks has posted on their web site, which doesn't exactly encourage you to hold your breath waiting. ;) "Knifeworks has 3 Spyderco exclusive knives that are in pr...

Re: Knifeworks M4 PM2!!

I wish KW would've stepped the ti Military up to S110V. Nothing wrong with S90V(great steel)but it already been done a couple of times on the Millie. +1 It's possible that they tried and that there was going to be a delay because Spyderco wants to focus S110V development efforts on other knives for...

Re: Knifeworks M4 PM2!!

Hmm, this complicates things. I was not expecting it to be that much. Must be the carbon fiber. I can't find a way to rationalize the price. The Bradley folder has M4 and Carbon Fiber, with a street price of about $145. The plain satin/black Para2 has a street price of about $105. Put both of those...

One plus for those of us who are really in the minority is that you could get full SE versions of the Para1, which makes a special knife even more special. There have been occasional threads asking for a full SE Para2 sprint, but alas, we wait still... ;) :spyder:

Re: Paramilitary 1 Enthusiasts?

Count me in. TBH, I was sort of smoked when Spyderco introduced the Para2. Then I purchased one, the S90V sprint, just for the blade. Well, it completely convinced me. I still love the original and have a couple of them but IMO the Para2 really is a better knife in every respect. :spyder:

If someone were to gift me a NIB CF PM2, and gave me a choice between S90V and M4, I would take M4.
I would rate M4 below S90V/20CP and M390/204P based on performance with the Military and the Manix.
