Pockets, you are wise to handle before buying, if that is at all possible - I think we all know how a Spyderco design can suddenly "make sense" once you've held it in your hand.
As for the catalogue, I am kind of relieved that there is nothing in it that I absolutely must have.

I'm surprised to see the Sage series running 7th place. Even the Dragonfly is ahead of it by a few votes. It's elementary, my dear addylo...the truth is that only 11.6 % of Spyderco forum posters are enlightened Jedi knights. Sage series 23 votes = 11.56% The Dragonfly is the perfect EDC knife if y...

And there's more awesome Spyderco knives than allowable wallet breathing space. The Gayle Bradley Folder has the smoothest action of any Spyderco that I have had the opportunity to handle. It screams quality in every possible way. For me, its one downside is that it's a little thick and heavy in th...

One of the best uses I have for owning a Spyderco is working in the kitchen while cooking.
Using a Spyderco, skinning a hard and difficult-to-prepare turnip can becomes an exercise in knife wielding skills and bladesharpening.
I too want that knife.

Why did I have to discover Spyderco, WHY? The first Dargonfly was all the pocketknife I will ever really need, but it didn't end there...

I really wish that I had discovered Spyderco many years ago, because so many great models came and went long before I knew that they existed.

So the microbevel/cutting edge is actually a less-acute 40 degree angl,e and you only add it only after first grinding the main bevel to 30 degrees?
So essentially you are sharpening your knife and then "dulling it" a bit by making the final edge less acute so as to maintain a sharp edge?

Blade play ruins a knife for me. Why do some Spydie frn lockbacks have bladeplay and others not? The Stretch in frn seems to be particularly prone to this.

Yes, sharpening any blade is an art; sharpening a super steel such as s30v requires both art and specific tools. ZDP...that blade must either never get used or never get dull - just as it is difficult to dull, it is equally difficult to sharpen.

The frn scales on the Byrd Hawkbill are more likely to have hot spots than the scales on the Spydercos because the Byrd scales are chunkier and less rounded than those on the Byrds. The Byrds have a nice finger choil on the bottom and jimping on the top, which is not included on most Spyderco models...
