Dog update

Last may I purchased a white German Shepherd Dog puppy and it's been a very busy time since then. We've had our ups and downs, especially between6-9 months old, but now she's doing very well. She'll be a year old on St. Patrick's Day next month and I thought I'd share a picture. She is still very mu...

I think spyderco has gone to a boron carbide or a tungsten carbide coating that is significantly better than earlier coatings that actually increased friction between the blade and what you were cutting on deep cuts, eg slicing boxes. I guess I've gotten sensitive as to peoples perceptions of my kni...

I think most people are sick of black blades; they're very mall ninja/faux tactical. The reason, I think, for the olive handles is that they don't look as "scary" to the sheeple and a black blade would ruin that image. I'm really enjoying the new o/d handles and just got my ukpk with them ...

All samples are encased in plastic and actually need to be the size of a spyderhole. The surface is at the surface of the plastic and is mirror polished and then etched.

So, no real knives unfortunately

Sounds to me like the perfect excuse to buy one of each and let it count as "school expenses", especially if you have some excess grant money needing spent ;) , loans, eh, not so much. :D :D Too bad it involves taking a "sample" and encasing it in plastic and polishing it down a...

sample request for materials lab in college

I was wondering if it was possible to obtain some samples of the various steels spyderco uses for one of my materials engineering classes. I was hoping to be able to purchase some punched out/cut out spyderholes for viewing in our metallographic microscopes. My professors are very interested in what...

I found the cf on my caly3 to be a little more polished and have a bit more resin. The tmag is almost a brushed finish and I can kinda feel the texture of the carbon fiber; it has a woven "feel" to it rather than simply a "satin" texture like my caly3.

It really is a joy in hand.

Best handle texture ever

So I recently picked up a tmag and I have to say that I think this is the best handle texture that Spyderco has had.

It's smooth enough not to be abrasive, but it feels like it grips very well in the hand and is fairly similar to micarta.

I really wish the calypso had the same finish

I actually picked up the two that were sitting around at a local outdoor/hunting store today.

Both were numbered in the low 900's(can't remember off the top of my head).

I'm kinda thinking about selling one of them.

Some of you tried to cheat and get more than 2? You might want to find a new knife company. I don't think Spyderco's the one for you. Don't worry, there are plenty of other knife companies out there where I'm certain you'll feel right at home. That's quite a high horse there. I for one didn't know ...

I'm on Maui right now and have kept a salt1 pe and an atlantic se on me the whole trip and they've been great. The salt1 has been used for a lot of food prep, including breaking down the tuna and mahi-mahi that my family caught so I could sear nice big pieces of them for dinner as well as the usual ...

I don't know of anyone making them yet. Please be careful when working g10 and wear a proper respirator and have good ventillation as it can be very nasty stuff. I'm in hawaii right now and my dad and I bought some koa wood, so I think I'll be making a humidor and some scales for my mule team when I...

I'm trying to put together a list of all of the Kopa variations so I can complete my Kopa collection. Any help would be appreciated. I'm also trying to figure out the order as well.
