I am honoured that you chose a Sustain to be a gift to your nephew!

You are a wise man to include a lot of info about metallurgy, safety and piece of mind, especially when dealing with the laws of the land.

Does he also live in Illinois?

Re: The Pre-Diver, Dive Probe, and Mini-Probe!

The Probe was always one I regret the most about passing on a new one in Barry's Blades in Durban South Africa... It cost twice what an FRN Endura cost at the time... I might source a second hand Salt blade of some sort and make one for me... :) I have Ti plate, so the rust problem should be negliab...

Re: A Month Without Spyderco: Thoughts & Observations

Apart from when I have had to enter restricted places, I have always had a knife of some sort on or near me in a backpack etc. Obviously airplanes have had me place an edge or two in hold luggage. If I am entering a restricted place, I normally leave the edge in my vehicle and so I never have to &qu...

Re: Hey sal:

Basic Tools did make a model or two called the Silver Falcon, and also for Camillus. I know someone who worked for them, hence my info. Back in RSA, I saw a BST trademark and Silver Falcon on the same folder blade, and the scale had a small brassy type medallion of some sort. But I stand to be corre...

Here in NZ a few years ago, you could ask the assorted airports if you could but any confiscated "tools". I was GIVEN a shoe box with scissors of all sizes, knitting needles, hairbrushes, combs, Bandaids ( ?) 6 inch plastic rulers, and one knife: a Gas Station Special... the plastic rulers...

Just wash the Kraton is soapy warm water, NOT hot, and rinse off and let dry for a day or so.

Then use VHB or even Kikisui tape ( available from sail and yacht suppliers )

Re: What is the best way to acid etch VG10 steel?

Ferric chloride is the safest.

I use Aqua Regia on my custom Serratas to show the dendritic structure.
2/3 Hydrochloric acid and 1/3 Nitric acid...bad stuff to use for health and safety.
