I just found this thread and saw that my name was mentioned :D . I would get rid of all that wood. It is all dry-rotted. replace it with something close grained like oak. (It will be cheaper than mahogany or teak.) The hull is fiberglass. you can use general fiberglass and resin/epoxy from a marine ...

Great story! :D I see hundreds of gulls during the summer with hooks in their beaks or wrapped up in monofilament fishing line. For all of the bashing commercial fishermen take, it is the recreational fisherman that seems more careless on the water. If someone is fishing and they hook a gull, don't ...

great spyderco customer service
In 2006 I got my girlfriend's mother a black FRN serrated cricket after she expressed interest in the girl's pink cricket. she carries and uses this knife all the time. she has accidentally taken it on a plane, lost it for several weeks (it was in the pocket of a pair of pants in her closet) and bro...

when I had the time and money to train, I preferred RGEI. When the P'kal came out I swore I would get one but never did. I still know the basics and always have a knife for work. I deal with cash a lot and with strangers, and work in a pretty rough area but sometimes it's not feasable or comfortable...

yeah, I don't think that too many people would be scared of the kiwi, I was thinking size more for comfort of carry. I am used to carrying an average sized folding knife in work pants. I am in the wedding party and so I have to be at all the different affairs etc...and for the most part, will be in ...

I hadn't thought of the kiwi, or even the kopa although both might be a little larger than what I am looking for..I will probably be in slacks or a suit for the entire time so I think pocket space (and not being used to a knife in dress pants) will be an issue. I like having a knife as a matter of c...

thanks Pneumothorax. I used the large C-44 dyad commercial fishing for a few years and liked the versatility of the two blades. I figured that this would be similar in ergonomics except on a micro :D scale... I don't expect to use the knife for more than mundane gentlemany knife chores although if i...

does anyone own the jigged bone version of the micro dyad? what are your thoughts on it? I haven't bought a knife for myself in a long time as all of my funds are usually funneled into the lobster boat. I have my brother's wedding coming up in a few weeks and since I am going to be in non-work cloth...

I used a serrated Byrd Cara Cara Rescue for a little over a year commercial fishing before I lost it overboard. I got a serrated Byrd Rescue 2 from spyderco to replace it and have been using this one for about a year. It's taken everything I have thrown at it. I've cut things that a knife shouldn't ...

start slow with accessing the knife and drawing it. pay close attention and take care in how you access the handle before you draw, then draw slowly. once you have that down to muscle memory, start increasing your speed. don't just jump right into fast draws... I can have my knife open in under a se...

Gander Mountain in Kenosha WI near the Woodman's grocery store had delicas the last time I was there (couple of years ago). they were stainless, plain edge D4's in clamshell packs for around $50. There is a Bass Pro Shops in Gurnee IL that had a few spyders when I was there and there is another in B...
