With over 60 Spydercos in my collection, I went through them all to see what was the highest quality. ****, they are ALL high quality. I want to choose Golden Colorado because I want to buy American. I know that Taiwan is making some really high quality knives... My PPT from Tawain is a machinist's ...

I was 8 years old, and owned my own .22 rifle given to me by my father, along with the rules I still observe today. Where I lived, the targets were mostly snakes. School had its bullies. But, we had not been conditioned by Hollywood and computer games to shoot anything other than the aggressor natio...

I think Phillipsted said it all when he typed, "I guess it would depend on where I was stuck." But for 40 years I always carried a Swiss Army "Tinker." Probably went through a dozen of them either lost, stolen, worn out or broken (doing something stupid.) Then retirement and knif...

I hesitate to post because my preferred lube seems to change from time to time and it is all anecdotal evidence rather than scientific. But my latest success is a mixture of Ballistol and Nano-Oil 10 weight. One drop of each. I am still suspicious of Nano-Oil but it does seem to work well. I don't w...

Nice! My wife wants to buy me a case like yours ... where'd you get it WMR? (if you don't mind me askin') I don't mind at all. I bought it on ebay from this guy: http://www.ebay.com/itm/ARROWHEAD-KNIFE-POCKET-WATCH-WOOD-COLLECTIBLES-DISPLAY-CASE-FLINTKNAPPING-/280972355052?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&...

It reminds me of an inexpensive Chinese knockoff folder... That was my guess as to what it was. The amazing thing to me is how, after a couple of years of steady use, it has a very smooth action and a solid lockup. I have spent enough money on American made knives since that purchase tha...

What is my old knife?

About 4 0r 5 years ago I purchased a knife in the Florida keys. It was an inexpensive folder made in China from 440C. It was in a great wooden box (which is why I probably bought it). I carried this knife for a couple of years. It once fell down in my reclining chair and got royally chewed up in the...

Love this idea. Nice looking set. Do you have a favorite? Amboyna is definitely my favorite. I am not a fan of stabilized woods as they tend to look like a plastic imitation, even though they are real wood. I have discussed Amboyna in another thread called " Show Your Wood Scale Mods! " w...

TedP, It is not Maple even though it looks like it from a distance. It is actually the best I could do with a small Australian Burl Cap of York Gum that was too small. So I used as much as possible and let the edges stay in the natural state. That only shows on the back side so I have once again att...

If Spyderco could make a knife which, when the clip was removed, looks like a knife that never had a clip, it wouldn't matter. The PPT was close. But if it ends up looking like a new large Kiwi with the clip removed ( because I always remove the clip) then I probably won't buy one. If it is a no-cli...

I think I'm going for the VG-10 because I want to have a “safety net” if i dent the blade, which I probably wouldn't be able to fix with ZDP. The edge retention on the VG-10 cant be that bad, right? Also, I can strop it and it costs less. Anyone following my logic, or am I crazy? Good logic. (You a...

Mules on the wall

I finally found a case that I liked. It took Mules number 2 through 13. I have Mule Team #1 (MT01P - 52100) but due to the smaller hole size, I used screw type fasteners that extended slightly beyond the wood surface. Being afraid they might scratch and/or break the glass, I saved that one for a fut...

I'm still getting used to the spring. I like it but my hand forgets it is there. My left hand just automatically grabs the ball and unscrews it. I'll get used to it I'm sure. I watched a video of the magnes used with a larger kitchen knife. I just don't get it. Seems like the only thing it could do...

After reading this thread I got the spring to try. I'm not sure if I like it yet. But, while ordering the spring, I saw their little magnet for holding the knife down on the EP. Now I'm thinking that was probably a mistake as sliding the knife on and off the EP will probably magnetize it. This can b...

This is a picture of ZDP-189 on a Mule team knife used by my wife in the kitchen. I have no idea what she used it on or left it in to do that, but it is one of the reasons that I don't like ZDP-189 for everyday use.
