Kahz, I recently considered this same issue. If you are interested in a plain edge Snap-It, you will find them difficult to locate. AG has some of the last plain edge Snap-It's that you will find through a dealer. Otherwise, I decided in the end to buy a black Snap-It, and then I tied a red paracord...

I will continue to promote the Worker as the first "multi-purpose" tool. No pliers on this baby, but it can handle most every-day cutting tasks and many non-cutting tasks. If the blade isn't long enough for you, I would recommend the Native a a next great choice for most tasks. "Chanc...

Herbst scales -Titanium or Almite/Aluminum?

The Spyderco 2001 catalog says that the Peter Herbst scales are "grey almite coated aluminum". The SFO says that they are "titanium".

Which is correct.

I have never handled the Dyad, so I can only speculate on it. The Chinook vs. Native - The Native is a feather compared to the Chinook. The Native has a reversible clip (if that matters to you - it does to me because even though I am right-handed, I find the Native works wonderfully for both left an...

Why Grey Almite?

Sal, or anyone who knows, why has Spyderco chosen to produce certain knives in the Grey Almite-Coated Aluminum rather than Titanium 6AL4V? I know that the machining of Titanium is more difficult than aluminum, but the then you have to coat the aluminum. In very small knives such as the Mouse and the...

Yo Hannybull. Just thought I would chip in here. As I recall, the fictional character Dr. Lecter was infatuated with the finest of everything. I suspect by your inability to afford the Civilian that you share neither the taste nor the resources of the fictional character. So if you are not going who...

Tightwad, I think the opposable thumb thing and the brain thing are a wee bit more significant at differentiating us from other life forms than the ability to make knives. All of our technology (knives being just one tool) kind of follow from that. I carry a knife so that I feel prepared, as is sugg...

Yeah samo, I know, but in the end I did the right thing and got both, now I won't have to guess.

The only thing is that my wife gets suspicious (about how much I am spending) when I start running out of places to put my knives.

Mouse or Navigator?

I assume some/may of you have handled both. The comparison would be between the Almite Navigator, plain edge with slotted scales or the Mouse. The obvious difference is ATS-55 vs. VG-10. Beyond that however, how does they stack up for everyday use against one another? i.e. Handle comfort, thumb rest...

1 and 1) I cannot separate the look from the feel. That said, when buying or trading for a knife, I start with appearance. I get the knife, try it out, carry it, show it to others. I would say that like Clay Kesting, my ratio of keepers to "through-flow" is about 10%. The look and feel com...

I concur with what is said above. The Merlin clip is the reversible type, wheras the Harpy clip is right hand only. I think that the 0.5mm blade thickness is fairly significant both in weight and in cutting drag. But the pros/cons of each depend upon your intended use. I generally prefer the Harpy o...

Sal. Has Spyderco ever considered a framelock? If not, why not?

Price point?

Quality concerns?

Just don't like framelocks?

Thanks for looking.

Although I do not have a Police model knife, I have a other Spyderco's with a dent - notably the SS Rescue Jr. and Native. I much prefer "dented" to non-dented. Instant lock release find is the best advantage, feels good to the fingers or thumb and I happen to like the way it looks. Good l...
