Very late to the Amsterdam party, but I'd like to add my thanks to Wouter for what has become my most anticipated thread of the year. Also, thanks to Jazz for the condensed version of Wouter's fantastic photos--makes it easier to drool only in one place. And I thought I was swearing off buying any n...

I hear ya and add a big +. I asked the same question in a thread a few weeks ago. I'm just not a big fan of FRN and really was attracted to the Autonomy as a H-1 w/ G-10 rescue knife.

For a small EDC to complement a larger EDC I think the way to go is either the G-10 Jester Sprint or the bolstered Manbug G-10. They're very similar; I prefer the Jester, but the Manbug also works well and is slightly larger. The G-10 Dragonfly is another good choice (although I still dislike the sh...

Thanks for the explanation, Mike. You addressed the only minor thing I never liked about the FB04: the edges of the choil, which on my knife are relatively sharp and take away from the comfort of use. Now that the choil has radiused edges, it looks like I may be "forced" to upgrade...

I'm really glad I got an extra Caly 3 G-10 in PE and SE while they still were around at a reasonable price. I had a CF but let it go. The only other knife I've purchased multiples of is my other old-time favorite, the Para I. The Para II just doesn't fit my hand and I live in CA where there's a 3&qu...

Perrin Street Bowie: What's New?

I'm very happy Spyderco has brought back the Fred Perrin FB04. It's one of my favorite lightweight fixed blades. But in the 2013 Product Guide copy, it says "the new version is paired with a redesigned...sheath". What, actually, has been changed or refined besides the sheath? Or am I just ...

I have a older blue Japanese 93 mm Rescue in my truck and an orange smaller Rescue in my wife's car. But after reading this thread I'm thinking about swapping them for Assists. I also keep a PE Esee 3, a Leatherman, and a SAK Explorer in each vehicle.

The Caly 3 G-10 was my EDC for many years and it is the only Spyderco discontinuance that I've really ever seriously questioned. I still think (IMHO) it is the best all-around 3" folder ever. There's the slicker-handled CF version, and for those who never got to have one in G-10, at least a Spr...

Re the Atlantic Salt--what struck me about the Autonomy was that its blade resembles a folding Jumpmaster. I also liked the sculpted finger grooves and the G-10 handle, which no other H1 blade has. Plus that little bit of plain edge at the tip (like a Salt 1 and unlike an Atlantic Salt) is, to me, v...

Autonomy for "Civilians"?

I just got the new Spyderco catalog and was very impressed with the new H1 Autonomy. Please forgive me if this has been discussed previously, but has anyone heard any talk at the recent shows or elsewhere about Spyderco bringing out a non-automatic, locking version of this knife?

For me it's the smaller originals that fit best: the G-10 Caly 3 and Para 1. I tried the newer, larger versions but they're just a bit too big for the size of my palms and finger length. In terms of smaller knives, I, too, like the Kiwi and can't wait for the Lava to come out in a handle material ot...

I second Phillipsted's comments. There were some CF Cats without problems, but you just have to look for them and ask questions of the seller. I was able to find one and it's been my EDC for more than a year. For my purposes, everything about the original Cat's design and features is perfection. The...

Thanks, as always Wouter, for your insights. I've always wanted a C49, the smaller version of the Wegner, but just haven't been able to find one. One time I thought I snagged one on eBay but the seller sent me the larger version thinking he had the junior. Oh well...One of these days I think a C49 w...

Strictly for usefulness, it's probably my old Jester Micarta, which is on my keychain and, therefore, always with me. As for other usefuls, probably one of the Spydercos in my current EDC rotation: Cat CF, Air, vintage Cricket Tuffram, and Techno. For "hard use" around the house, it's my t...

A big second to DeathBySnooSnoo's comments and another vote for "Other.". I think the Air is Spyderco's finest gent's folder to date, even surpassing the lockback Kiwi. There are others, such as the Cat CF, Chaparral, and Viele II (minus the clip), but the Air is superior in the role polled.

I have to agree with all those who said the Lum Chinese. The original in scarab beetle green is one of the most elegant knife designs I've ever seen. And, though it's way too big for me as a folder, the fluted Ti Military is pretty darn gorgeous, too.
