Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon

I do a little bit of cooking. Whenever I try a new recipe, I expect the first (or even second) trial to be not so good, but a necessary learning step to figure out how to make what I really want. As I gain experience I am able to produce something good much more often on the first trial -- but you g...

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon

Well, that was smooth and easy. Almost anticlimactic with no crazy drama. Nice work from Spyderco. Thanks.

Re: MT37P - AEB-L Mule Team Dropping Soon

This steel has me right away thinking about 52100, which is one of my favorite steels of all time. And I read that some people call AEB-L "stainless 52100". So I am totally OK with it not having fantastic edge retention if it has some of the properties I admire in 52100. I have especially ...

Thanks to TTfultimer for the tip on the $14 sheath, I tracked down what looks like the item in question and will give it a try.

Re: Waiting to buy Mules

Spyderco has always been reticent about publishing heat treat numbers. I don't know why, and don't really care. They have their reasons I am sure. Perhaps they don't want to be in the position of advertising a specific HRC and having people test and complain later. Which would be reasonable in my op...

No one likes waiting, except the Brits, I've heard they cue up really well.
I am told the Germans are very good also.
However the Japanese top all of them.

The Americans though ... we are becoming a country of entitled "Karens".

Re: If you could have any knife in magnacut, why would you opt for another steel?

For variety.

It is really hard to find a bad steel these days. There is nothing wrong with Magnacut, but I don't see it as the only game in town. For example I just picked up the Manix sprint in s15V and I am delighted to have it. I expect other interesting things to come down the road.

Re: Help With Choosing a Manix 2 Steel

Honestly, you can't go wrong, except in buying a LW -- always go for the G10 version. The XL is really a totally different knife. I adore the Manix, but the XL is definitely not for me. That aside, there is nothing at all wrong with S30V, and I am glad to see plenty of people boosting it in the repl...

Re: Anticipation of: CPM REX T15 in MT34

Interesting that Rex45 and Rex76 are close neighbors on that chart. Two of my absolute favorite steels.
I used to cry every night that there was no Rex-45 mule, but the Rex-76 mule took all the tears away.

Re: SRS13/SUS405 Performance Thread

This has been my daily "small knife in the kitchen" since the day I got it and I love it. Very happy with the factory edge and given daily use it has held up well. I may have touched it up once using the Goldenstone and it is probably due for that again.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

Can someone explain to me, why the Manix is seen as a strong, heavy use knife? Bolster isn't the first one to mention that. I, personally, never have seen the Manix as the heavy knife, that fights you through the jungle. I mean, the blade is kind a short, if you want to use it as a chopper or as a ...

I think there are more off topic posts complaining about off topic posts than any other kind of off topic post. Although it is off topic, I just want to express my frustration with all this off topic discussion. If I don't feel better after doing so, I'll be back with more off topic discussion until...

Does anyone know what the HRC is on the Spyderco sprint?
65.0 +/-0.1, per Shaun on a production knife.
That it pretty amazing if that is what I have here in my hand. Thank you for the info.

Re: CPM 15v Manix 2

I have been spending idle time the past week or so reading through all the posts in this thread and others related to this 15V steel and knife and sharpening, etc. I am wondering, and I well could have missed it. Does anyone know what the HRC is on the Spyderco sprint? I saw some of the numbers BBB ...

Re: Wal-Mart and this forum

Try buying a Damascus blade using PayPal for that matter, you might find your account frozen. Found that one out the hard way. That's interesting. I just bought a Manix 2 sprint on Ebay, and I am sure I just paid using Paypal like I do for every Ebay purchase without thinking twice (or even once) a...

Re: Please explain "behind the edge" geometry to me

I sit here wondering just what the DPS is for the original grind on a typical knife like the Manix 2 I have sitting right here. I was telling myself I needed some fancy gear to measure it, but I can get pretty close with just my dial calipers and some trigonometry. I take a ruler and find where the ...

Thank you! Somehow I had thought that I had this all wrong, but I really didn't. So I'll restate what I think I just learned from you guys so far, especially the explanation by gunmike1. If I have a knife from the factory with a BTE that I don't like and want to reduce, I have two options. 1) I can ...

Please explain "behind the edge" geometry to me

I've done some searches and by and large have gotten more confused than educated. Here is what I think I understand. You can tell me where I have gone off the rails and please do so and/or add to this. I think that it would benefit me as well as others. Let's take a full flat grind blade, like most ...
