Re: Visualizing the Tradeoff of Higher Hardness

Hi Synov, Very nice information. Thanx much for the effort and for sharing. I noticed that you list S60V was listed at Rc 58.5 going up to 61. This led me to think that this is pretty much a digital conclusion? Is there any real world testing and results to this. I have a fair amount of experience w...

Hi Quantum, Welcome to our forum. Hi Kennbr, In addition to the comments above, there are a few things to add; When dealing with heat treating, most, if not all Heat treating requires a range that can be 3 or 4 degrees difference in the spread. eg: Rc 58 -61, which we have learned makes a big differ...

Sal, I hope that we got our misunderstandings corrected and that you had a great Easter, same to everyone else here. I'm just going to try to stick with explaining science to people who have questions and try not to be uhh. Dialectical. Jas Hi Jas, I should probably warn you that some of us believe...

Hey Jesla,

Perhaps he should discuss the question here instead of emailing you? He asked a legitimate question, and you say he has legitimate reason. Though for him to assume that it makes a company bad for not giving that information indicated that more edge-u-cation was needed.

Hi Butler,

Welcome to our forum and thanx for your service.

Spyderco was the first company to experiment with these coatings. We coated a number of several models for testing. We are still coating knives, though the coatings have evolved.

I'm waiting for a response. I was in a earthquake in Taipei about 20 year ago. Buildings shaking, but noting came down. This one was quite strong.

Hey Steeltoes,

How do you collect the rainwater? Have you done any Ph testing on the rainwater? Ph testers are pretty cheap. I think i'll get s new Ph tester and start testing rainwater myself. I remember all of the "scares" about acid rain.

Re: Spyderco and hrc

Hi Clint, Welcome to our forum. I made the decision not to publish Rc decades ago, simply to avoid argument. There are many people that have their own opinion on Rc or limited understanding about how the hardness fits into the cutting edge puzzle. I believe much of that has been mentioned here. It's...

Hi Chinstrrap, Thank you for your service. The chemical difference between H1 and H2 is very minimal. Just made by a different foundry. We just felt it would be honest to let our users know what was going on, hence the new name. Please try to continue to keep us in this loop. I think we all need to ...

Re: Get me excited about M398

Hi Steeltoes, Thanx for sharing. great stuff. One of the beauties and real reward of others testing. If possible, some pics of the actual test would be great. As far as other companies go, probably best to just post Spyderco here on this forum. Thank you for your kind understanding and cooperation. ...

Re: Neck Sheath for PM2???

Hi Bob, Yes, Safety is the concern for me. It is just my opinion, but I think that neck knives should be as light as possible and have the best possible sheath retention. Having an opened knife loose under my shirt is a scary situation. We don't make very many neck knives. My Swick design is offered...

Hi Chinstrap,

We'll gladly replace your knife so we can test it. Yours is the first complaint of its type.

Edit; I lied, In speaking with R&D, it seems like there was one other case similar. Might be contamination by the serration wheel? It's being investigated.

"Back in the day" when the Eugene Knife show used to have a cutting competition, I had an opportunity to work with Ed Schempp on his Cutting Competition knife. Ed let me get a loupe on his edge before the contest, which he won, and again after the contest, which showed no difference. His f...
