Re: What strop do you use?

I like thin hard leather with diamond spray. It is great for touch up between stones and will bring the edge to another level if used with light touch.

Re: 52100 vs other tool steels

For many years firearms were chemically coated with bluing and browning which is a form of forced patina which did protect the carbon steel from surface rust. The process causes a layer of black oxide of iron (Fe3O4) to form

Search firearms "bluing" for more detailed info.

Re: 52100 vs other tool steels

The Marbles in 52100 steel were made for four years only, some claim into late 2001,, after this time frame they were subcontracted to Camillus with their own steel. Early Marbles were 1095 and have a great reputation. The used Military with green G10 has a 52100 blade installed by original owner, v...

Re: 52100 vs other tool steels

JD,
Search Patina on some of the Kitchen Knife Forums,,, they all recommend letting it form or forcing a color on the Hitachi Blue and White paper steels.

It does help prevent rust and corrosion as well as eliminate transferring odors to food from the steel oxidation.

Re: 52100 vs other tool steels

I began using 52100 with the Marble's fixed blades from 1997-2000 era, have a treasured small collection. Outstanding fixed blade steel, especially with full convex grind. I do not use a secondary bevel on these blades. With the Spyderco introduction of 52100, it is to me even more readily carried a...

I carry my Delica 4 every day in top left shirt pocket.
Much easier to access when sitting than jeans pocket.

Re: Exclusive Delica - Carbon Fiber with HAP40/SUS410

No thank you,,, cost of $170 is a $90 upcharge for CF scales,, way over the top.
Forgot to drill for lanyard hole in the scales.

If the price was reasonable, I would jump on it.

Re: Question on blade length and why folks measure as they do...

I have several friends who are state troopers and local LEO's. Every one told me that if they stop someone for traffic violation and they are polite and co-operate,,, a warning is given 99% of the time. Mouth off and try to give the LEO grief,,,, every violation is written up. One retired LEO told m...

Re: Question on blade length and why folks measure as they do...

New Jersey laws revolve around "intent" when in court. The prosecution must prove intent to harm etc. This could include simple small 2" pocket knife. It is generally understood at 5" blade and 10" overall for general carry knives. However, if you tell the LEO "self def...

Re: 52100 / CF Para 3

I have both S90V and 52100 Para 3 models.
See pictures above.

The CF is identical with same texture and appearance.
Only difference is the S90V has silver stainless clip and 52100 has black clip.

Re: Question on blade length and why folks measure as they do...

It all depends upon how the state law is written. Mine defines blade length as Edged Portion (sharpened edge), not overall. One can carry any knife with limit at 4 inches however, fisherman, hunters, and trappers can carry whatever they like as long as it is used for fishing, hunting, or trapping Re...

I really prefer the present screw/sleeve arrangement design.
The fine tuning tweeks are sometimes necessary.
