Re: Delica Wharncliffe Has Dropped (pics)
I am pleased to see the flatter serrations. I have two of the PE coming, may get an SE later. FFG SE, good stuff.

Not my experience. I moved my clip to carry tip up and my PM2 drops free without adjustment.

Re: Help me decide on a fully serrated?
Here's a thing I wonder. H-1 is only offered by Spyderco in hollow ground patterns for a valid reason. That reason is that the work hardening response of H-1 makes the second side a devil to grind if grinding one side at a time, as is the case with FFG geometry. Hollow grinding happens on both sides...

Re: Red loctite
Doing a bit of research on this show that Red Loctite requires 550 degrees to free. That's a bit high for my liking when all of my knives are FRN. The recommendation on Loctite's site also shows to advisory to not use on plastic parts. Loctite make a liquid remover, which I would think would be the...

Re: Is There Such A Thing As An "Endurica" Hybrid?
Thanks all for the suggestions. I put in order an for a stretch. I don't think I'm going to be able to resist a Para3 either, when they come out. I'm not trying to get into collecting, but I really love Spyderco's story and philosophy and design ethic. I'm hooked. A good choice. I'm not a "col...

Re: Is There Such A Thing As An "Endurica" Hybrid?
I hear you on the big handle with shorter blade thing. You might enjoy the original Para Military, which had a shorter blade than the PM2. I'm a carpenter, too, and I use a PM2 as my work knife. For me, the 3.5" blade gives decent tip control and the sweeping belly allows cuts nearly flat to a ...

Re: Red loctite
Soldering iron puts the heat in a much more limited area than a heat gun. As such, I'd think it to be the better tool for releasing thread locker on small screws.

Re: VG10
This is worrisome as "VG10" is stamped right in the blades, and there's no way to tell if you are getting a real deal or a knockoff. I'm not sure about the the knife being a fake model overall but there is a way to tell if the steel is actually VG-10 or not. When VG-10 is polished smooth ...

Re: EDC steels. lc200n has become one of my favorites!
I used the Spydiechef on the boat this morning cutting up bait and then in the kitchen today making a huge salad. The Bait was filleting the tail half of a mackerel and cutting it into strips. The Salad was about 20 minutes of work on a cutting board slicing all kinds of different veggies. When I w...

Re: Delica 5
I agree with Darby here. Although I love the compression lock, I think using one on a Delica is too far to go. It wouldn't feel like a Delica anymore. The back lock is fully ambidextrous, has strong closing bias, is reasonably affordable to manufacture, and is simple in design. Maybe another lock wi...

Re: LC200n corrosion resistance
I know that H-1 is fantastically tough. Someone once posted a picture of a Salt folder whose blade had been bent almost to 90 degrees in some heavy equipment accident. No cracks.

Re: Blending EDC with Self Defense
I've tried cut testing a military and although it's one of my favorite knives, it just falls short in the slashing department compared to say...an endura. I don't know why that is but it's what my informal tests show. I would go for a Yo2 for utility and for SD. The 4mm blade stock maybe? That coul...

Re: Red loctite
Evil D. My thoughts exactly. and I have NO problem with putting loctite on every piece of hardware....except for the clip screws....which some members have commented on.. I use the blue Loctite on my clip screws to vibration-proof them. They are still removable without heat. I've seen some fastener...

Re: Sticky deployment on pm2
It sounds like the threadlocker they use is brittle enough that the shock from smacking it breaks the bond. This is a fascinating tidbit of knowledge, thank you Zatx, for sharing that.

I've never been pinched by the compression lock on my PM2. I see how it could happen. Interesting to see what Eric is developing. The compression lock is my favorite lock.

M390 was originally developed as an abrasion resistant mold steel for making injection molds that can resist the scouring effect of hot plastic filled with hard fibers such as glass. It has to resist corrosion at the same time that it is resisting abrasion.

Re: What is your favorite stainless steel and why?
This is like asking a mother which of her children she loves the most. That said, of the stainlesses I have significant experience with, there are three that stand out. Those are M390, VG-10, and ZDP-189. They all take a fine edge, and the first two have excellent corrosion resistance. The ZDP is re...

Re: Newbie getting Para2 s110v today,. what is OOB angle
Using a SM rod to pivot the SharpMaker (SM) for lower angles is a cool trick. Like some others have posted, I reprofile freehand on DMT's, then apply a 15 dps micro bevel on the SM. Which DMT's are you using? I use the XXC for blades that need reprofiling or that have major damage. I then work up t...
