The easiest way to use these hones is to use them like a chefs steel. You'll be able to put a blistering edge on in no time flat with this method .

I have the same honing sticks and they leave that kind of finish on a lot of my edges. They are great sticks. I usually finish with a progression of other finer finish stones (doesn't necessarily have to be Sharpmaker as everyone here is pointing you toward). Might want to also consider lightening u...

I've done it and and it's not that hard except you need to secure the handle so that the blade is flat on a work surface. Use wet/dry sandpaper (use it wet with water or Windex glass cleaner) preferably a small foam or leather glued to wood block backed and work the blade with constant pressure from...

If the aren't perfectly square and flat your sharpening will be always less than desired. Don't add any more frustration to your sharpening by adding less than perfect tools to your efforts. When you you replace them either you or the sales clerk should have them checked before you purchase them or ...

You might want to do the edge sharpening in sections and finish with smooth, light final swipes, tip to ricasso. I'd do all of my sharpening with your 701 profiles. If they're blunt, I'd use heavier grit wet/dry sandpaper on a dowel or your 701's (also in sections) until you can hit them with your 7...

After purchasing a Scandi some time ago with a really thin edge and finished with a convex edge I thought to myself, what the heck, with the saber grind on some of the Spydies I have now, why not take advantage of this edge on my hard use knives? As a result, now I've had a convex edge on my E4 ZDP,...

Most people who have difficulty with the SM don't sharpen long enough on each side of a dull edge to get a full edge burr, and then worse, have difficulty removing the burr to get their final edge. If you still have it in you to try again, use a Sharpy felt tip pen to mark the edge and gently run th...

I have both and though they both share a tremendous strength and utility factor, the Manix is the brute of the 2 with its full dual stainless liners. The blade shape and thickness also contribute to this knifes ability to take a major league beating. The Manix would be my choice of the 2 if I was st...

Congrats on the new knife and welcome to the forum. For the most part I like either SE or PE, first choice is SE for most knives. I like the CE on the longer blades like the Endura as it give you more of each whereas the short blades don't give enough. But as said it is personal choice all the way ...

They all have them. As a matter of fact, on a laminated blade it is expected to be able to see it to some degree or another. I have many of the Spyderco laminated knifes with this type of steel and they're pretty much all the same. Enjoy your new knife!

The SE E4 is an absolute beast of a knife. I absolutely love it. Cuts everything put in front of it without a wimper. Haven't had any issues with chipping but seems to be easy to reestablish the edges on the teeth when blunting. Does a heck of a job on foliage and small saplings. Won't need the saw ...

Save it until you see a knife that you really want. Don't buy based on others recommendations because they're not yours. Better still, go to a shop where you can put your hands on them then make a decision.

Generally, from my experience, the H1 holds an edge much like AUS6. Takes a great scary sharp edge but won't hold it. As long as you don't mind carrying a hone or a strop to keep the edge up should it fold during use, then this steel should be fine for most of your needs. From what Sal has said and ...

Easy answer, buy them both and return the one that doesn't quite fit you. Done this plenty of times and is the easiest route to take with no risk. Personally. I like the bigger daddies of both and ended up keeping them both. Good luck.

Three best choices actually. The Doublestuff or a cheapo $3 Arkansas stone for those already sharp blades just needing a bit of TLC. The DMT Diafold in ExtraFine and Cermic for longer jaunts. And the EZ Lapp Sportsmans diamond steel for those questionable trips where you'll need to be capable of sha...
