Re: ELmax?

My only experience with Elmax was on a Kershaw Leek "sprint," and I too found it comparatively easy to get sticky sharp vs high-vanadium stainless steels without a perceptible sacrifice in edge retention. Seems to prefer a polished, not toothy, edge. Have heard good things about its toughn...

Re: Burnt Orange Rex 45 para 3

I don't recall many sprint runs coming in multiple production batches... I recall the Cru-Wear PM2 and Para 3 sprints coming in fitful batches as the total unit count for each run was manufactured. I'd bet each dealer got a half-dozen or so in the first shipment, and the rest of the run is probably...

Re: Techno vs Techno 2

I haven't pre-ordered it or anything but I intend to try Techno 2 at some point. After all, I had and sold the original Techno twice. The revision looks to solve the issues that nagged at me with the OG. Some thoughts: - Techno 1 had a chunky blade but was exceptionally well ground. I found that the...

I'd love to see a wharnie Delica in ZDP. I think it'd be perfect for the steel.

Re: Spyderco’s Polestar & Alcyone should not be in the “VALUE LINEUP”

I’m hoping both these knives will be available with BD1N at some point. If that doesn’t add too much to the price I would probably buy one. I like BD1 and the gray G10 a lot at the current price and might buy the Alcyone at some point. I am not really a “value” buyer though. I really prefer knives ...

Re: Smaller chokwe

https://i.imgur.com/p9LBKy7.jpg I don't think a compression lock is the way to go with the Chokwe; the cross-section at the stop pin is already quite slender and a cutout for the lock would be a bit much. Frame lock just feels right, especially with the holes in the handle doubling as a lockbar rel...

Re: Smaller chokwe

I like the framelock, one of the few in my collection (and Spyderco's lineup). CTS-XHP is a favorite steel, but something exotic is always welcome. Would love to see handle scales in something more "natural" than the typical G10 or carbon fiber, maybe micarta or wood.

As long as we're talking about steels, I think ZDP would be ideal for the wharncliffe delica.

Re: Chokwe Dreams

Luckily I've never had problems with my Chokwe opening unintentionally, but I agree that the detent is a bit too light. On another note, it's the only knife I've ever owned that can 'tailstand' when open. The unusually wide and flat rear end that makes that trick possible also makes it one of the fe...

Re: Chokwe Dreams

Yep, my collection has a ruthlessly high turnover but I've never even considered selling my Chokwe. Probably my favorite overall blade shape, and the handle has shockingly good ergonomics (despite looking like a doorstop). I'd love to see a new production run or sprint variant, and would definitely ...

Re: Taking apart knives

Apple certainly won’t fix that broken phone for free and a knife maker shouldn’t be expected to do that for a damaged knife either. Certainly, I agree. But I should be ABLE to take the knife (or phone for that matter) apart, because it's mine. If I can fix it or improve it enough to postpone its ev...

Re: Taking apart knives

- restocking fee - cost to get the knife to Spyderco in order to evaluate it and certify it as new, and back on shelf of a dealer. This takes time, and judging how some get their panties in a bunch if the postal carrier is a day late, this will hurt. This is the first novel idea I've seen in the th...

Re: Taking apart knives

For Sal to actually bring this up in the 1st place it's obviousy a major problem as he doesn't normally start threads like this. I wouldn't take his concerns lightly. Haha what about my impassioned spiel makes you think I'm taking this lightly? I think the dealers have a responsibility here to step...

Re: Taking apart knives

Your car, iPhone and a pocket knife are kinda in different leagues of complexity...or maybe my knife is missing some features Absolutely. So why shouldn't I be able to work on my simple pocketknife? I don't want to derail the thread here, but the problem with the modern goods I mentioned isn't thei...

Re: Taking apart knives

A very smart person once said worry about the things you can control and not the things you can't do anything about or can't control. Life is much less stressful that way. Thanks for the philosophy lesson, but I am speaking up here, now, because I do have some small measure of control in this situa...

Re: Taking apart knives

Unless you live in a cave there are a ton on items we all use these days that are not Customer serviceable. So I suppose you wake up insulted everyday, must be hard to deal with all that stress that you put on yourself. Cute. But yes, I am often discouraged by the growing number of non-serviceable ...
