Re: Fish Hunter has arrived! :)

I wish that more of the Salt line were offered with plain blades. There are lots of them that I like in terms of design, but they tend to come only with serrated blades, and that makes them non-starters for me.

Re: Curious about strength and durability of ceramic BBL

I have a Manix 2 and a Manix 2XL. Honestly, since I've never taken them apart, I don't even know what kinds of ball bearings they have. If you look in between the handle scales with the blade not locked or closed, you can see the stainless steel-looking bearing ball. Cool, yep, there it is! :) Now ...

Curious about strength and durability of ceramic BBL

I've noticed that the Spyderco knives that still offer the Ball Bearing Lock (there are much too few of them) use a ceramic ball bearing whereas way back when, they used a spell ball bearing. What's the story with the ceramic one? Why does Spyderco prefer it now? And most importantly, how does it co...

Compression lock then and now

I have a few Spyderco knives that feature the Compression Lock , and they're all pretty old. I have a pair of Vesuviuses, and an original Paramilitary. The Compression Locks on those knives use a milled tang design to keep them closed, as opposed to a ball-bearing detent. I am curious about whether ...

Re: Neck Knives

What I don't like about the ARK:
- It's a bit smaller than what I want
- The upsweep is too severe and puts the point way off the axis of the handle
- The handle is integral and so there are no removable scales

Re: Neck Knives

Not only is the Enuff too thick, it's heavy as **** for use as a neck knife. I've never taken off the handle scales, though. Now I'm curious about how it would be without them. I'd have to make a new kydex sheath for it, though.

Re: Neck Knives

I hope I don't catch ire for reviving an old thread. I began carrying my Swick (original) as a neck knife about a year ago, using a nice kydex sheath I made for myself. I live in Florida, and very successfully conceal this knife under just a tee shirt all day, every day. I don't know why so many peo...

Re: Manix 3?

I would really like to see a return to the BBL.

My Manix 2XL is my favorite folding knife. But I would prefer a nice big steel ball in it like on my Poliwog. Why do we have the choice of only the CBBL, and not the BBL? Why has the BBL been relegated to near nothingness?

Re: Spyderco knife in movies

I love the fact that Spyderco doesn't pay for product placement. I strongly dislike when companies do that; it diminishes their dignity. I find it hard to imagine that there isn't at least one person in any given prop department for film or TV who doesn't know what a Spyderco knife is and can't prov...

Re: I can't freehand

Is it necessary to use diamond hones for finishing an edge? I have a DMT Dia-Sharp bench stone in COARSE. I use it for correcting nicks and damage, and for reprofiling edges. But once that's done, all a knife usually needs is some light work on my Spyderco Ceramic Whet Stone (medium) and possibly a ...

Re: Your first purchase of 2015?

I've been carrying my original SALT on a simple paracord neck rig (original clip removed, cord through the hole in a Lark's Head knot; plastic breakaway barrel cord connecters). I decided that I wanted the more compact--and disassembly-ready--Dragonfly 2 Salt, so I just ordered one an hour ago from ...

Wow. I didn't realize that there were people so desperate for a Dodo that they would pay that much for one. I have one that I bought new in great condition, and it's still in pretty fine condition, and now I have to rethink whether I want to keep it, given that I never carry it. ...

I do like back locks ok -- much more than liner locks. But my favorites are ball bearing lock, caged ball bearing lock, and compression lock (in that order). I have plenty of confidence in ordinary back locks ... but I recently got a Cold Steel clip-point Mini Recon 1, and it has the "Tri-Ad Lo...

That is a cool novelty, to be sure. But I'm confident that for that novelty, people will be looking for a ridiculous price.
I wish that Spyderco would just sell a kit with replacement scales that we could buy from them for a reasonable price.
