Well, it was really bad there for a while. Most of my knives were bought in the space of two months. Then I bought the Salsa and settled into an EDC rotation (usually some combo of Calypso Jr., Salsa, Endura, and Native), which meant I could save up. Now, I have a Gunting and a G-10 Police PE on the...

So far this college semester, I've bought seven knives with an eighth on its way, about a rough total of $430. I could have bought my new bass already... Having to deal with the bass virus and the Spydie bug is an expensive thing! Wise man say, forgiveness is divine. Remember that when your <img src...

polishing away rust
Well, after almost 6 months of carrying my Native everyday with less than diligent cleaning and maintenance, I'm starting to notice a few small pinpoints of brown on the tang around the laser etching. The brown doesn't rub off just using your thumb, so I'm thinking it's probably rust. The first time...

Kinetic opening of the Gunting
I've been thinking about the ability of the gunting to kinetically open on an opponent or object. Specifically, I was thinking of SPYDERHOLIC II's and Bram's warnings never to open it on a living thing unless you want trouble. I've never seen it in action, but thinking of how it must work, I'm think...

A stainless Delica with a VG-10 blade would be great, especially if it had engraving on the handle to provide a little texture and added beauty to the knife. Make mine a Delica PE, with the engraving only on the handle. It may be a collectors' piece, but I wouldn't be able to justify buying it if I ...

This is starting to get interesting. Wu Chi may be a mindset in which you fight, but it shouldn't be one in which you live your life all the time. The samurai were warriors, but they were encouraged to study as well, to learn about the world, and to be the ideal citizen of their culture. Knights may...

If you have to have a clip, I'd suggest getting the Cricket or, if you feel it's worth it, the Mouse. Again, it is pricey for a knife its size, but it is well worth it as a small EDC for box-cutting, letter-opening, and the like. Personally, I don't like the Dragonfly, but that's not to say noone li...

I needed a knife for work and other applications. I went down to Buffalo Beano's (they carry just about anything you don't normally find in a small shop), and they had a Native Lightweight CE. It fit my hand perfectly, but I was a little bit put off by the serrations. I decided it would work well, a...

Are you sure it's both? If it's ATS-55, is should be hollow saber ground. If the steel is VG-10, it'll have a flat saber grind. Look at the knife point-on, and you should see a slight concave shape to the grind of the knife approaching the edge. A flat saber grind looks similar, but the initial beve...

Black or dark blue G-10 Native-style handle with steel liners, with some extra length and the butt end of the handle tapered to a blunt point that extends slightly beyond the botom of the hand. Also put a nylon bushing in the pivot for extra smooth action. Blade, I'll take a full-size Calypso-shaped...

Serrated blades need to be sharpened on the corner of whatever stone you'll be using. Hold the blade bevel on to the stone, then pull the knife toward you as you slide down the stone. The serrations will slide along and grind down on the corner. It'll sound like you're running the blade along a wash...

I play paintball, which is the closest I can come in my experience to being in a fighting or combat situation. I know from personal experience that you can be hit and not notice it, even if the hit was on a more sensitive area, such as the kidneys, sternum, inner thigh, and neck. I've never had a pe...

I'd also take a serious look at the Perrin Street Bowie. It's not serrated, but it is very sturdy, well-balanced, and would be good for cutting brush and clearing a campsite. Keep a good utility edge on it and serrations wouldn't be necessary. Wise man say, forgiveness is divine. Remember that when ...
