Re: Cheap DIY Scales?

Buy a G10 ....that way you won't need to upgrade to anything. 😁

I make fixed Blade knives and would not attempt to make folder DIY scales....so for a novice not a easy option

If there was no Pocket knives I would probably own 20 more fixed blades.

( I own more fixed blades nowadays )

Re: A perspective on a fad in the knife world.

There is no one thickness for any knife. There is no one knife. Having draws of butchers knives I could probably use one for everything but that takes away the fun of it. Pocket knife for in the pocket. Japanese Chef’s knifes for in the kitchen. Camp knife for camping. One knife I have is a beast of...

Love that idea! It would be that much more “authentic.”

Would be visible if you had one big enough.

Have to epoxy all the holes and work out all the bubbles to make it clear…(don’t ask me how I know that :grimace)

Re: Ultem Handle Material

I was a huge fan of Jurassic Park as a kid and Ultem reminds me so much of the fossilized amber with the mosquito inside from the movie. I want to laser engrave a mosquito on a knife then use some Ultem scales with a high polish to make it look like a mosquito in fossilized amber. Just to satisfy m...

Re: Ultem Handle Material

That's the handle material Chris Reeve used on the Sikayo. If you need a reference picture. I like the look but idk about the feel (haven't touched it) Feels good and the weird thing is when it’s super smooth it’s grippy and even better when it gets wet Solid and able to withstand Autoclaves. I hav...

Re: Ultem® Mule

Lookin good! Which grade did you go with? I started doing a little googling and got overwhelmed when I saw there was 132 different variations. ULTEM® 1000, AMBER, UNFILLED POLYMER Now there is a big difference from who you buy it from. Buy by the sheet of 12” x12” I buy from the :usflag As it is a ...

Cut into second block of UV resin. Just the bottom slice for now. This block will look better as I go up a few layers over time.

Re: Hazy Design Studio scales

They look nice… (I have some Fat Carbon blanks I wil have to try soon) Only point is with so many holes available, why he puts the screw so far forward and so far back. The Fat Carbon material is as solid as you can get so I couldn’t see it lifting if the pins were back a hole at the blade at least.

Love the black mix in the Cork Xplorer

I would be stabilising then epoxy. If you mix a bit of black into the glue up epoxy you could do it all in one.

The GB1 made me sell a CRK and stop buying them in the folder Size Range

A CRK Mnandi stoped me buying any other Gentleman folders

Re: sprint urban price

Damasteel is expensive, but there is not more than $30 worth of it in one Urban blade. It does add to the price obviously, but can’t be the driving force. I am pretty confident that to get the finish of the blade has cost more. Rarely a cost of an industrial product is driven by the cost of the mat...

… and Spyderco is certainly not paying retail prices.

Anyhow. i just wanted to make the point that the steel itself is not the main cost factor.
Give you that, and I agree as I have watched the finishing videos for Damasteel.
