Absolutely! Otherwise you'd swim in circles. :DMacLaren wrote:Plus, I've only got one flipper. A man needs at least 2 flippers right?

Thank you! Happy to have inspired you today! My frame lock has become a bit easier to disengage over the last few days. Perhaps my lock interface just needs to mutually polish a bit. The Ti lock piece is very beefy compared to my other frame locks like the Military. That's a good thing for reliabili...

Thank you for your kind words. No idea on which Crucible might be comparable to CTS 204P. I know that Carpenter is discontinuing 204P for some reason, so future versions of the Southard will need a different steel. I haven't had enough time with the Black Blade to evaluate the 204P vs. XHP. I though...

Hi TBob, We'll probably make the first run in the Brown G-10. Whether it becomes part of the line or not will be the question. If it becomes part of the regular line, then odd sprints with different handle materials are a possibility depending on ELU demand. sal Thanks, Sal. Have a great Independen...

Southard Black Blade Review
I have been intrigued with the idea of a flipper. I never owned one before, but had a chance to play with some custom flippers about a week ago. The Southard had an overall shape and design that appealed to me, but I'm not crazy about brown scales. Then I learned that the black blade version of the ...

Thanks, Sal. Will the scales be brown like the prototype or something more attractive (no hint of bias there, eh)?sal wrote:Thanx for all of your help in the evaluation Paul. It's good for all of us.
We're just beginning the tooling now, so the project will still be a while before we have production.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of brown, but It's ok and we do need variety. I use brown canvas micarta on my Temperance design. More for grip than appearance. I am a fan of ZDP. If the Stretch in the G-10 format is well received, I have no problem making variations. We won't be using black Nishij...

Cool. Keep us posted on the new Southard. The black blade Southard is VERY nice. The fit and finish are perfect, including the uniformity of the DLC coating on the blade and Ti scales. The ball bearing detent holding the blade closed is easily overcome with the flipper, but requires the right hand ...

Looks like surface oxidation. The discoloration follows the scale contours, hence only occurs on the area of the blade most exposed to air, moisture, etc. Flitz is an awesome, very fine polish that simply removed that very thin surface layer of oxidized metal. Don't be surprised if the same oxidatio...

I carry a Leafstorm every day at work, and have for about 5 years. It cuts like crazy and S30V stays sharp a long time. It's design and blade length fits in nicely in a business environment, especially those with blade-length limits. The lock easily closes with one hand, providing all-around ease of...

Thanks all...think I will go Superblue....partly because of limited availablity...I am pretty good at taking care of gear.... I use a Sharpmaker and manage to keep my knives sharp but its mostly just maintaining what the factory supplied....am considering a Stretch...maybe will do that in ZDP-189 T...

ZDP stays sharp much longer than VG10, which itself is a good steel. ZDP is not as corrosion resistant as VG10, though, and is not technically considered stainless. SB corrodes more easily than either ZDP or VG10. I recommend the ZDP if you can clean it well after dressing the deer, but if corrosion...
