Re: Manbug Leaf

Obviously we've not finalized a decision for the above reasons. The only thing that I'd like a clip for is to carry it in my shirt pockets like a pen. I'm enjoying the design. My hands are larger and the larger size of the Manbug is easier for me to handle. That's why I designed it. I wanted a smal...

Re: So who "invented" the finger choil?

Yes, Sal is correct. To the best of my knowledge and research, he coined the term finger choil to identify the innovation he incorporated into many of his designs. To my mind it is a somewhat of a combination of the terms choil and finger groove/s , however, a finger choil can only be singular as it...

Re: Button Lock Magnacut Caribbean 2

Actually, the button unlocking mechanism was listed on our patent when we patented the lock. Smock made a sample and Eric decided to try it in production to see results. It does require more parts, but the issues we had to deal with was safety and gravity knife issues. So far, we've had no issues. ...

Re: Shaman safety

Sometimes there is a learning curve with my designs. Can you imagine all of the questions when we first came out with our first models in the early 80's? Clips, big holes in the blades, serrations?

Yeah, so what's up with these 'fugly' knives anyway. :winking-tongue

Re: "Scope the Edge" project

As I have been sharpening professionally for 46 years (over 100K+ knives and 10K+ scissors/shears) and 54 years in total, ‘Chasing the Ghost’ seems like the perfect continuation of the Mule project. I’m all in.

Re: Elforyn laiying down the gauntlet

The material looks fantastic. I wonder what it's coefficient of expansion is. Is the material photosensitive like the old Westinghouse Ivory Micarta, i.e., does it turn yellow/orange over time. Does it absorb moisture like Micarta? How is effected by petroleum distillates, DEET, etc. Answers to thes...

Hi Co Pilot,

Peter and I are working on a new design.

sal
Looks to me like the Co-Pilot's basic design could be adapted to a more handle forward design like the Rockjumper. Could be called the Rockhopper after one of the world's smallest penguins.

Re: Polished FRN?

I seem to recall Sal once mentioning the handle on the Ramco/Laguiole being FRN (the only way they could get the desired shape was by injection molding) which would seem to answer the question. Spydiewiki says it is micarta. Does Spydiewiki have the wrong information? That is always possible. It lo...

They were made by the late Jim Phillips probably 15-20 years ago. Not a big bunch made.

sal
Jim Phillips also made this fairly rare sterling pin of a R/H Serrated Police model with a L/H pocket clip.

Re: Knife Knuts, Steel Junkies, and Mule...???

I always think simple is best. Why not just "Mule Team". This trademarked term seems to already be a play on the 20 Mule Team All Natural Borax Laundry Detergent Booster & Multi-Purpose Household Cleaner. As an obscurely related aside, I believe one can make anhydrous Borax, forge weld...

Re: Spyderco Pre-Diver

Also, I find it interesting that a lot of the "old school" models are oriented for tip down carry, and wonder if there's a reason for it - or - that's just the way things started, and evolved from there. The original ClipIt patented concept was to orient the knife with the tip down. This ...

I agree. We're looking into a switch to 9Cr now.

sal
Which 9Cr? 9Cr13CoMoV, 9Cr18MoV, or 9Cr16MoV? Why and how much will that effect the price?
