Re: Stropping works for which (Spyderco) steels?

Thanks for the comments, I sort of went off stropping for a while as I thought it was maybe covering up poor technique on the stones.

Re: My Urban's Spinning Pivot: Lessons Learned

I've not had problems with these and I have a couple of linerless knives. However if this is in fact a problem, wouldn't the best solution be to have screws with the slot or socket on both parts? Then the holes in the frn could just be round holes.

Re: Change in UK Knife Buying

.. (the bill isn't approved and passed yet IIRC) Correct, the bill has had it's first reading but has not been debated in the Commons yet. Still a way to go but given the government's attitude I can't see it changing much as it goes through. It would take some brave MPs to risk being seen "sup...

Re: Change in UK Knife Buying

I wonder if the people supporting this bill know how wide they're casting the net. The bill as drafted refers not to knives, but to "bladed articles" which include anything with a blade, a point or an edge. That's everything from woodworking or gardening tools to scissors, pencil sharpener...

Stropping works for which (Spyderco) steels?

Hi, Just wondered out of the Spyderco steels, which ones respond well to stropping either to finish off the sharpening process or as regular touch up? I have a couple of leather strops which I use mainly for things where the final angle isn't critical, for example paring chisels but not plane irons....

Warranty should be with your retailer, you shouldn't have to send it back to the US.

Re: Sharpening CTS-BD1

Cheers, I'm beginning to wonder if the problem is actually with the Sharpmaker, maybe I need to clean the rods better. I don't have a lot of fancy steels to compare, but I find it no quicker sharpening BD1 than K390 or Elmax. Another thing, based on how long it takes I don't normally take the UKPK a...

Sharpening CTS-BD1

Hi, I've been using a UKPK as my regular EDC for a couple of years now, and gradually have been realising that I find it a pain to sharpen. It's not that it doesn't get sharp, but seems to lose it's edge quickly and then take a long time to get it back. In making this comment I'm comparing to a coup...

Re: Sharpening

.. Lansky sharpening system for these steels but I have heard they need diamond stones .. The Lansky system with diamond stones makes a good combination with the Sharpmaker. Use the Lansky only to get consistent angles, then put the final edge on with the Sharpmaker. Lansky is fiddly though, and fo...

A 52100 UKPK would be nice too.

Maxamet UKPK
One or the other would be nice, preferably in drop point. A couple of years ago there was a poll for a UKPK sprint, and 52100 came out favourite. Of course things have changed, Maxamet wasn't around then, and the military 52100 has come and gone.

I really like the slimmer blade on that Spy DK. Can't think why I never noticed it until now it's discontinued.

Drop point please. Do you think if we keep mentioning it we might get a UKPK in 51200, or Maxamet or K390 or something? To me a US steel would make sense for a US model.

Same here. I like the extra length compared to the Urban, but don't like the wider leaf bladed UKPK.

Re: Need help with a BB Urban...

The photo in the listing is pretty poor in my opinion, for a professional seller. Having said that I can't see anything apparently different from my BB Urban. He says they're numbered. The BB knives sold to members weren't numbered, or at least mine isn't an I don't remember any reference to numberi...

Re: Spyderco bevel angles VS the Sharpmaker

I like your idea of being able to adjust the sharpmaker angle. Off the top of my head if the sharpmaker had small rubber "feet" that screwed into the bottom of the sharpmaker one could adjust the screws so one side of the sharpmaker sits higher than the other, giving people a variable rep...

Re: After carrying the UKPK...

Never thought to write it down but in case of UKPK we have to be thankful to the british governance and their ridiculous sight what knives belongs. Not to nit-pick but it was actually the judiciary which determined, through case law, that a locking knife is not a "folding pocketknife" as ...

Re: Difference between mimicry and counterfeiting?

I agree, it's counterfeit if it's being passed off as an actual Spyderco product either explicitly by naming and branding, or by implication as in an exact copy of an actual Spyderco product but not quite putting the name on it. Mimicry would be making something in the style of Spyderco, but not mim...

Thanks everyone. I didn't think Bar Keeper's Friend was available over here, but it looks like it is. I assume the stuff you're referring to is their "Cleanser & Polish - Our classic oxalic acid-based cleaning powder is the most flexible choice." I will try our local supermarket. Also,...
