You're right, the Temperance is one heck of a good design.
I carry this one as much as my Military, which was my first love.
One way or the other, you pay for your tools!

Give Knife Knut a Kewpie Doll! Dressing the Sharpening Stone so that it consistently has identical serrations is a time consuming task. The guys that do the sharpening don't have a hair on their arms or neck. Any rumor that Americans have lost pride in their work is put to lie in the Golden, Colorad...

The Military has been my main carry for years, but the 'Lil Temperance has worked its way into my carry rotation. The Military still wins, as it is a thing of beauty, light weight (for its large size) and balance. The G-10 scales are comfortable and strong. On the 'Lil Temperance, there's a lot of m...

The Civilain is terrific for slicing and dicing, but is especially well adapted for controlling an assailant. Once hooked over an arm, cooperationn becomes the operative word. A word of caution, the Civilian and the smaller Matriarch will give the local police and jurors every reason to believe you ...

Reg, Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. You'll find that Spyderco steel is pretty rugged. While I no longer play mumblypeg, there are two knives with delicate tips: o The Civilian o The smaller Matriarch Both of these knives are terrific slicers and useful for maintaining control. However, neither blade...

KBR, Many of us face this problem daily. Mine is complicated even more, as I have a 'Lil Temperance Leaf. As many of us face the quandary - Why have a great knife if you're not going to use it? I love all of my Spydercos, but I carry the Military and 'Lil Temperance about ninety percent of the time....

John, The good news is you get to buy every Spydie made from the time you become a member. You may even have the option on purchasing previiously released Spydies. Your purchases would also be the same number - between 1 and 200 - each time. The bad news is you must buy them all! This can get pretty...

I have the Leaf design and am very happy with it. In fact, I liked it so much, that I bought the Bob Lum Chinese knife. The leaf design puts a tremendous amount of heft and muscle in the smallest possible package. I now find myself splitting my carry time between the Leaf Lil Temperance and my Milit...

I have and love both, but the Military is my EDC while the Starmate is usually displayed above my fireplace (the only knife displayed). Both are great knives, but the Military just feels so good in my hand. I strongly suggest that you try to handle both knives. I think your decision will then be an ...

The Lil Temperance is an awsome blade. It's a lot of blade in a small package. It also has a very strong compression lock with ugly G-10 scales. G-10 is a great grip, but I hope they change the color. I have the Leaf Point which is similar to the Lum Chinese Folder. I'm very happy with the choice. I...

cmassicotte, Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. SFO is the Spyderco factory outlet. Beware of being bitten by the Spyderco bug. You'll finf that Spyderco makes many fine knives. Some of these blades will catch your fancy. I myself prefer G-10 and Carbon Fiber scales. My every day carry (EDC) is the Mili...

KennyBoy, Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. As to your question, Gravity. Hold the knife with the blade horizontal and down. Now slide one side of the back end from the other, and the weight of the blade is enough to break free of the phantom lock. If you really want to look cool, let someone else try ...

While I consider the Military my EDC, I regularly carry the Lum Chinese as well. I was not favorably impressed by the Lum, but I turned around on that after I bought the Lil Temperance which had the Leaf style blade. I got the Lil Temperance due to my interest in the compression lock. Within a short...
