Re: I don't give a #@$! about stainless

You kids are cracking me up. Stainless helps in applying makeup? Dancing around in women's clothing? I guess the bottom line is that playing with knives is fun, and we can laugh and make jokes while doing so.

Re: Lazy Man breaks down and flattens stones: What about the Sharpmaker?

I'm saying that those of us who are prone to toss out half-baked ideas with no evidence, need to stick together. Of course a dedicated sub forum. That goes without saying. And a secret handshake. And coffee mugs. And maybe a pole dancer. Right on, brother. That's the most well-considered idea I've ...

Re: Community Sharpening Journal

Thanks for the kind words! Unfortunately I still see the flaws in my own edges. Some days I do better than others. They do all get sharp and cut though, and that's plenty good enough for me. It's a poor craftsman who doesn't see the flaws in his own work. It's what drives us to continue, to improve...

Re: I don't give a #@$! about stainless

Word. Is there anything in my name that would make anyone think I'm a fan of stainless? Anyone ever machine stainless? It's awful. Anyone ever get slivers of stainless under their skin? It's awful. Why would anyone want their knife to look like pots and pans? Real men do real work in real shops wit...

Wait... what?
We need a dedicated sub-forum, as well.

If anything I would think a hard rubber mallet against like a hard plastic or wood surface might be less damaging.

Maybe. There's one way to find out.
Be sure to post before and after pics.

Re: Looking for advice on this blade damage

The good news is that the metal appears to be somewhat malleable, so you can probably straighten it back out. If it was me, I'd lay the blade flat on my welding table or chunk of metal that I use for an anvil. It doesn't matter what thick flat metal you use, as long as it's flat and won't deform. T...

And thanks for saving my cash. I'm not going to buy another USB microscope. I just need to find a used conventional scope for cheap.

Finished grinding and sharpening more CATRA blades for Dr Larrin, also some metallography. Looking forward to seeing his article about it. There you go again being a bad influence. You should know by now that most of us are weak and lack the discipline to resist fancy new toys. How about telling us...

I believe the conclusion from the likes of Sal and Cliff Stamp is that the ceramic stone will to some extent take on the aggressiveness (or lack of) of the lapping compound used. Thanks! Both those blokes know a thing or two about knives and stuff. I think I'll try it out on a couple round ceramic ...

Re: Stretch 2 XL in grey G10 and CruWear steel!

It’s the nicest Seki-city knife I’ve had the pleasure of using. Build quality is excellent. Very smooth action, very easy to close one-handed, and man is it easy to pack 4” of cruwear into your pocket. Right? It's such a nice blade in an elegant package. If there was an award for Best New Knife of ...

Pardon my ignorance Rusty, but I am surprised that you were able to flatten diamond stones with aluminium oxide powder? Did you perhaps mean "silicon carbide powder"? Hey, Brock. Thanks for the feedback on dressing Sharpmaker rods. I'll remember this if my rods ever start performing unsat...

They get us hooked with the new catalog, then two weeks later hit us with price increases. We've been hoodwinked, bamboozled, led astray, run amok. With that said, how soon until the next Reveal?

Re: Define the different size categories FOR YOU

I have been advised by police that you basically don't want to carry a knife whose blade is longer than an officer's palm is wide... there's no actual code and so they use that rather inconsistent measure. I can see the discussion going thus: "Ok Barney Fife. Is your body cam on and recording?...

Re: Define the different size categories FOR YOU

How do you define the different sizes for yourself? A "normal" sized knife is going to be in the range of the Manix 2/Endura/Stretch 2 XL. There's a little variation in there to match whatever mood I'm in, but any of those are going to hit the sweet spot. A "large" knife is the ...
