Re: Reinhold Rhino Update

This is great news. I think CTS-XHP is the perfect steel for this knife, although I'm still hoping for a 204p sprint run :D . Agreed that I would prefer straight G10 on this model, just because it's purpose built for EDC and the CF says "gentleman's carry" to me, but I love the Taichung CF...

Re: Black Blade (TiCN coated) Lil' Matriarch

Not to hijack the thread, but I imagine the wicked recurve has given some people pause in terms of sharpening. I know that's my first thought when I see it, but now that I have a sharpmaker I'm less intimidated, at least about the PE. Is this something easily done with a Sharpmaker or do you need to...

Re: Crazy deals @ Sierra and other places

I had been mulling it over and decided to pull the trigger on it. Also, I got it for $48 shipped (seller had it listed as best offer so I offered him $60 and he accepted) :D Should have thought of that!!! Good on ya though. I think I paid $52. Picked up a ZDP Delica and Ladybug H1 hawkbill as well ...

Cool, that's what I was hoping to hear. It should be tough enough for ZDP189? Also, would an Aotosohi 2000 be enough of a complement or should I go for the 1000 and 3000 to round out the "medium" and "fine" grits?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks everyone! And thanks for the good wishes Thom. Picked up the sharpmaker with that eBay coupon. So, the new question is diamond rods or no?

Re: Smallish EDC Spyderco

I love my blue nishijin Spin. One of the most underrated Spydercos IMO. Not sure if it's discontinued, but I got mine for around $50 and change new. It is probably my most carried, although I do pair it often with a larger blade (currently a Stretch ZDP189 with a deep carry clip that I carry IWB). A...

Re: Poll: What is your preferred stainless steel for EDC?

My thoughts too that's why I picked 204p :D I'll be stoked if they choose 204p for the Rhino. All these steels are fantastic. I know the price was such a draw for so many people, I just chose what I thought would be the lowest price increase based off the price difference between the Manix 2 LW in ...

Sharpmaker, water stones, or both?

So I just put an order in for a Naniwa Chosera 400 grit. Birthday is coming up, so I'll splurge for the 1000 grit then. Also eyeing the Naniwa Aotoshi 2000. I really enjoy the experience of freehanding. Currently have a King Combo, which is fine for initial sharpening but not getting me to hair whit...

Re: Poll: What is your preferred stainless steel for EDC?

Seems you know something others don't? can you offer anything more than a teaser? Honestly, just looking at context clues and making an assumption on this one. The limited number of steels seem to line up with the steels of the Taichung factory models, combined with the news that the Rhino i...

Re: Battle of the 3" Blades: Delica4, Sage1/5, Native5, Para3, Chaparral

The Chap for me, but I cringe when it gets dirty. This is why I'd go with my Delica. The reality of EDC is that the knives are going to get used, they are going to get dirty, and they can get lost, misplaced, or stolen. The Delica gives me peace of mind in its ubiquity and its utility. That buying ...

Re: Poll: What is your preferred stainless steel for EDC?

I based this one solely on the price point difference between the Manix 2 LW BD1 and LW CTS-XHP. If I'm reading through the lines correctly, this is to guage a possible successor steel for the Rhino. Those are all great steels so my real vote is for the smallest price point difference. Save 204p for...

Re: Suggestion - First Spyderco

I think what abbazaba means is CTS-XHP :p For about 6 dollars more than the BD1 Manix, you get a more exotic/finer steel than BD1, so you should have leftover for a sharpmaker. Plus it's a limited run so once they are gone, that's it. Can't tell you how many times I've thought about buying a back-up...

Delica or Stretch. Or a Manix 2 LW in CTS-XHP, although not sure what Knifecenter's rules are regarding Canada.

You understand it would be different if we were already expecting the newer version all this time. However we were led to believe that it would be the previous. It's not so much the Rhino I'm passing on, it's being misled as to what was actually coming out. Here's the thing, it's not like this was ...

I think the ergos on the PM2 are great specifically because the scales aren't too thick. The Para 3 on be other hand may benefit from thicker scales.

Re: Rhino

Personally, and not to rub anyone the wrong way, I was a bit disappointed to hear it was originally only going to be offered in BD1 as I might have passed on it. Hearing it's now due out of Taichung with a better steel is music to my ears. It seemed a lot of people felt that way. I'm sure the move ...

Re: EDC Fixed Blade

I was looking at the Moran, but I'm really looking to do this for around $50 and have something I can carry easily in my pocket. It's kind of an experiment/project and I was curious to see if anyone had tried EDCing a Spyderco paring or mini-paring knife. The mini's price, wharnie edge, small size, ...
