I just run mine under the tap when they get sandy. Sometimes I have to work the blade open and closed to get it all out, but it does eventually all come out. :D

I had my D4W done by Tom, and it's awesome! I would highly recommend starting with a D4W and having him regrind it. Also, if you want a quick response, your best bet is to give him a ring.
