Re: The threesome fight!

What US Spydie feels ''cheap and flimsy'' to you? As an example I would pick the new unlined G10 native for example of “cheap and flimsy” as an example. Having just a pin and 3 screws connecting plastic to plastic, whether they are G10 or FRN, and a blade and bushings. They seem too flexible, the h...

Re: The threesome fight!

If the benchmade does not wobble it is too stiff to open. The partial liners and plastic handle is likely the culprit...just mush for a handle...and a plastic unlined handle with a painted black blade at this cost in this range? Get serious. I just have to make a little correction. That Benchmade's...

The threesome fight!

A1E3062F-971D-4D28-8412-F5FB3F49D9C4.jpeg So I went and took 3 brands with similar length blades and worked them hard for a month each to see which one ended up in my pocket the most at the end. My cutting talks were similar to all, they were all worn in jeans, all started with a sticky sharp blade...

94A800F6-8244-4C6B-8708-B13AC0B9F6A2.jpeg My delica stainless I have had about 20 years Looks fine to me! Pop a lower edge angle on it to compensate for many sharpenings and you should be good! That said, how is the side to side blade play? It did get a wobble twice. I smacked it on the hinge with ...

Re: Grindability

I have a pm 2 and 3 and native in Maxamet and noticed huge differences in the factory bevel, but the maxamet on a dmt or the spyderco ceramic brown or white stones grinds so nicely and makes a burr that reprofiling is no issue. Using the sharpmaker for a bevel os a dream. I can let gravity alone swi...

Re: Grindability

Well, when I got into knives in the late 80’s, aus 6 and aus 8 were good, as was 420 stainless. A lot of brands like Katz were proprietary and would not say what they were. D2 and others were out there but not common in a lot of shops. The issue was that sure with a couple swipes on anything they we...

Grindability

After 30 years of owning so called legendary names like “buck” etc and chasing names I graduated to chasing models and brands and then to chasing steels. I had to have the latest. I chased vg-10 and s30v and others always believing the hype of a knife that would cut forever with 4 brushes on ceramic...

Re: No love for the Lil Native?

I was this close to buying a Lil' Native but my Massdrop Blue Box Native arrived and too my chagrin it is an S30V LW Native when that wasn't even an option? So now I have an S30V knife so it looks like i'm either going to be waiting on a sprint/exclusive or going to have to sell my S30V ...

Re: No love for the Lil Native?

No love here. It is a wee bit smaller in the handle, a lot smaller in the blade than the native. The leaf shape is simply too “tall” for its length now. The knife does not have the usefulness of a native or the ergonomics. It seems too small to have a clip on it, yet too long and tall to sit in the ...

Re: Best way to deal with red loctite

Things are getting over complicated here. Locktite makes about 30 threadlickers. They serve different purposes and strengths. Red for strength on small bolts but not large, large but not small, anti vibration but not anti oil, green for bearing races that slide and green gor filling gaps on buggered...

Re: Pick a favorite out of these 5....

I pick the para 3 3 inch ideal blade length, but maxamet or other great steels have g10 and not my hated dollar store looking frn, or it would be a tie with the native. I just ordered a s35 native to scrap the blade and keep the handle for my Maxamet. It takes buying 2 knives to make one goodbone. W...

Re: What are the chances of an M4 Native 5?

I will take a look for those links, it took quite a bit if digging as I was rooting through the web for stores that had custom orders in as well as aftermarket stores for scales and customs. One of the best things I find about spyderco has to be the fact they put the most emphasis on blade performan...

Re: What are the chances of an M4 Native 5?

I'd love one as long as it isn't a LW I agree. My Maxamet native needs a g10 handle, the m4 needs a lined g10 handle....ar this rate I need to buy 2 natives in s110v just to take the *EDITED* blurple scales off them, dye all 4 black, then I will have a maxamet and an M4 with g10 scales that are non...

Re: S110V Conclusion/Working edge

Well, I wanted to do an unscientific test with hard use that would push the legendary S110V and do things that I knew would kill s30v quickly. I trimmed the shop vac where a neighbor rubbed it on concrete and chewed the end...very hard plastic. And so much other stuff that borders abuse. Dirt embedd...

Re: S110V Conclusion/Working edge

Well, that was my personal experience. I used one knife with one grind with one heat trear for one month of hard use every single day. I cut things for about half an hour to an hour each day. All in all, in my life 70 percent to 80 percent of what I do is done with S30V, and works fantastic and that...

S110V Conclusion/Working edge

Well I recieved my para 3 today in S110V a couple weeks ago. The very first thing I did was take it apart and dye the blurple jet black. It took 4 hours of boiling in the rit dye but came out black as night. If I had to keep it blurple all I could use it for would be to decapitate myself. Now that i...

Re: Bad steel experience?

I have had a vg-10 delica for 5 or 6 years now and I have never experienced anything like this and I have used it for dumb stuff. I think you need to provide further info because it sounds a bit odd. Seems like you only had a problem with the knife after you sharpened it yourself which seems to sug...
